What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

The part number might be on that Toyota box, unless that's the pads. Hard to tell in the pic.

I'm with @empty_lord curious how they manage to center the caliper if he is grinding down the mounting tabs. If you don't get the caliper alignment right the size of the rotors and pads doesn't matter.

Look like he puts marks on the caliper right where the mount rises and grinds until he meets the mark, but that isn't a precise method.

 

The only way to properly do it would machine the mounting ears by 1. Whatever mms to make up for the shallower caliper.
Strength of the ears may become questionable though.

I think I have a 13wh caliper in the garage somewhere. I might try and make it fit.

 

I wouldn’t run it unless your machining the ears to fit it properly the Way he did it I would be worried about over extending the pistons on the outboard side when pad life gets real low


But these calipers with custom 2 piece rotors could technically work. If you can find a rotor with the same depth as our stock rotors you can have it work perfectly

 

2.2mm is what would need to be shaved off the caliper ear. Would need to be pretty perfect

 

Maybe he's found some that do just that? We need to get the guy on here and interrogate him...

Got my axle dust caps in the mail the other day only to realize I ordered the wrong parts....again. I got metal axle dust seals I guess....not what I needed. Oh boy.

anyone have the correct part number for the front axle rubber dust caps that go over the axle nut?

Solid list. Would a different exhaust be quieter? Usually truck bois want them loud ole' pipes... Not a fan of HID's either although the projectors are great to have. I have my eyes on a $45 Amazon head unit with great reviews, I'd look there. Lastly, it took me a really long time to find a new bed. Could bodywork not fix it?

The bed's kind of been body worked already, there's just a gap between the bed and tailgate where water gets through when I'm sleeping in there. Not a huge issue so it's at the bottom of the list, but it would be nice to have a pristine old truck and the satisfaction of knowing I swapped out the bed

 

Long day on the rear drums. Did a proper job with wire brush, Rust Reform, and some Gloss Paint. Worked the rear drum action and cylinder rebuilds in between spraying. Didn’t get a chance to bleed the system as it can wait until tomorrow. Couple of observations:

1) NAPA spring kit seems inferior to the existing Toy parts so I reused everything (except for the e-clip and horseshoe clip which were good and are spec’d to replace). I did also use the NAPA big springs, but all the little springs are all skinny and smaller than OEM.

2) The Toyota Rubber grease is slick stuff!

3) Didn’t hone the inside of my cylinders as they were in good shape. My new honer also seems too rough/abrasive so I didn’t use it.

4) You need three hands when doing these rear drums.

5) One of my shoes looks to have been dropped on edge in shipping and a little chunk was loose so I pulled it out. Too late to turn back!

6) Wheel Bearing Repair by Stealer is not leaking!

 

What exactly is that white ring that’s over the hub/studs?

 

On the outside I used Rustoleum Bed Liner and Toyota Barcelona Red Accent (acrylic enamel).

On the inside of my doors I used Toyota Black (acrylic enamel) with the Barcelona Red accents.

That trim on your door that looks like its turning up can be removed. You need to remove your inside panel first I believe to access the side grooves for removal.

 

I anti-seized coated everything real good before putting the paper gasket on. Really had to wire brush the mating plate and inside of the drum to remove to Original Bits from years past that were stuck on to the surfaces. I made the inside of that drum look real shiny (no pics).

I couldn't say. When I did it I measured it inside the cab. I just kind of guessed and then modified it. I burned some bolt plates for the exhaust, welded a branch on the exhaust with one of the plates, and then made a capped pipe with a matching bolt plate. That way I can just unbolt and cap the branch if I ever want to adjust the length.
Somewhere down the line I cut the capped pipe and used a band style exhaust clamp so I could unclamp the pipe and cut or extend it.
Not sure if that makes any sense, but I can get pictures sometime.

 

Hmm. Frame plugs to plug the holes that should help keep shit out of the frame.. got enough for the taco frame and tundra frame

 

According to his posts, he has a machine shop that does the modification. The people that have installed his setup seem happy. Not sure what he charges. I believe that the brake lines he uses replace the flex & hardlines to connect directly to the caliper.

Had the oldest lil ginger helping me adjust the rear bumper........I might just bite the bullet and buy the 4xino swing out hinge, I’m only 30-40$ deep into the heims so it’s not a huge loss, I’ll find something cool for them to do

 

If you want me old ones, they are better than your non existent ones, I’ll send them to you. They have a screw driver mark where dilbert mashed one into the lip to pry it off. It’s not a huge hole but it’s not perfectly sealing the housing

 

Yeah. I discovered yesterday when doing the front brake line service that Cooter (assuming from at 4wheel front rebuild place) mashed mine to do the front axles. I may just caulk the doink up on mine up to make it water proof. Amazing how much inferior work you discover when you go behind these goobers.

I will say the recent Toyota mechanic did grease up my brake shoes/dust cover contacts and star-adjuster when he did the axle repair service. The other side was dry as a bone (shoes replaced 3 years ago when axle seals blew).
