I did program the front cam if I hold the up arrow. But it doesn’t shut it down. It only works if you call it up with the button and if you press it again you can turn it off. But not when it turns on by itself.

I also wish there was an easy way to call up the rear camera without putting it in reverse. But the only way to call it up is by pressing the camera button and then tapping on the screen and selecting rear camera. The cam button calls up the front cam by default and I couldn’t find a spot to change it to call up the rear cam. I think if there is no front cam then it calls up the rear cam.

Thanks for that. Just dropped my truck off tonight to have a 996xr put in and I asked to try to figure out how to get rid of that.

I don’t mind the front cam kicking in at low speeds, unless you think that’s the issue it’s giving me with wireless Apple carplay.

Edit: sorry I didn’t clarify my issue. I can’t use wireless car play because of the VSS.

I finally figured out why I didnt have access to the “Front Camera Control” option. During the maestro flash I opted out of the “Advanced Camera” options which removed the “Front Camera Control” option within the Maestro Settings. I can now disable or change the time until camera comes on at low speeds. Thanks for all your help BlueBottle!

I’ve just run into this issue with my ford E 350 van. Crutchfield sent a firmware update that was supposed to fix problem. It did not correct the issue of apple play not working but made the message stop popping up. I read in this forum about hooking up the phone to the usb then removing it. I did that and the radio has functioned correctly ever since. I do not have to hook the phone up to usb for the apple play to function correctly anymore. God luck!

I just had a Kenwood receiver installed with the wireless CarPlay feature in my 2015 Tacoma. It did not work wirelessly as advertised. But there is a firmware update for several Kenwood models to fix the issue. I just did it . . . .and it worked. Checkout this youtube video to see how to do the firmware update: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ji1wMHUgyIU

This works. Did it on a brand new Kenwood 906S that would not recognize the VSS wire.

I got the 9905s no problems wireless or wired but then I got there pixel 3xl. So it's in the list of compatible devices.

I have a kenwood ddx8906s and during the flash I made sure that the option for advanced camera options was turned on. However, I still can't open front camera options to make any changes including flipping the orientation of the image or turning off the back up guidelines. I would love to find a solution to this.

What camera do you have? Most cameras have the ability to change this on the camera - there are usually 2 small loops of wire and if you cut the loop it changes the setting off.

Guys - just installed my DDX9906XR with Maestro and TO2. All works perfect EXCEPT when changing a track up - there is a brief delay.

Bluetooth audio does not do this. Nor does direct connect.

Bluetooth and WiFi wireless Carplay does.

    Can anyone else confirm this?

I had seen the little loops in the wiring diagram but did not see them on my camera wire so I assumed that it was a different model. After going back, I found them hidden under a black shrink tubing sleeve. The wire that sets orientation corrected after a few tries, but the loop that was supposed to remove the guide lines did not function properly so the image is correct now but I have those back up guide lines.

Bringing up an old thread @BlueBottle you may be able to answer this. I'm actually installing a DMX906S in my 911. BTW, Apparently Kenwood recently did a firmware update where the VSS cable is not needed anymore, because it doesn't appear to be required in mine when i tested the unit (that said, i haven't driven with it, just powered it up in the car).

But back to my question, is the GPS signal functional, or just needed for carplay to work wirelessly? Meaning, can i tuck it behind the dash and it'll just use the GPS signal on my iphone? Or do i have to put the unit somewhere where it can see connect to the sky.

Found some new strange bug that I haven't figured out now. Made some changes to the vehicle settings like unlock all doors with one button push, time for lights to stay on in the truck after you close the doors, etc. However, now, I can't lock the truck with the remote until the interior lights go off!! I'm not sure which setting triggered that one, but it's a pain! If anyone else has had that issue or know where I should look, let me know!

it uses it to help on navigation. I put mine under the dash but right under the speaker grill. I believe without it navigation on Apple car play doesn’t work. I know because at first I tried to use the factory antenna but it didn’t work and it would show me 300’ away from my actual position. After using their supplied antenna it works. So in short yes it does need it. If you can place it near the top somewhere it should work even though it is under the dash.

yea, i know it's a requirement to have it to work carplay wirelessly. Just didn't know if it needed to actually be in "use" (I.e. is it just a function that it needs to be plugged in, or is it actually useful)
