FUEL ADDITIVE THOUGHTS

Being new to Tundras (3 weeks) and THE forum, I have not seen any comments regarding the use of, or need for fuel additives, mainly to neutralize ethanol.
Are there any members who use it; why, what kind, noticable changes, etc.
I have used Star-Tron for years in my other truck, a 2004 GMC, lawn mowers, snow machine, weed trimmers, etc. I store all of them for the season, and when I need them they ALL start on the first pull; I've always had start problems until I started using Star-Tron. (I'm not a dealer!!!)
I have not seen any info from Toyota regarding the pros or cons of using these types of products.

I actually did a Fuel induction By BG products today also on every oil change I have done since 18k to now at 150k miles I've done two bottle treatments one for the oil and other 44k for fuel tank

 

The StarTron is designed to neutralize Ethanol, eliminating the harmful effects it has on fuel systems.
Thanks for the info, I will give it a try. Couldn't hurt, and the investment will be well worth it.

 

Startron is excellent. I also use Seafoam as an injector cleaner.

Adding that will be less expensive than pumping 89 ethanol free.

 

I use Lucas fuel system cleaner and Marvel Mystery oil. Buy them both by the gallon at F&F.put 12-16 oz in every 60 days if I remember. Welcome. D

 

After doing the research, I found that "ethanol free" 89 octane actually contains 10% ethanol.
They didn't lie...just didn't tell the truth.

 

Same - I'm new to the tundra world and pre-programmed to oil changes every 3-4k but in all my previous vehicles I did this. Roughly every 6-8k miles and ran perfect over 200k miles for both.

I too use it on every vehicle and small engine from bmw, porsche, 4runner, prius, camry, sequoia, honda mower, polaris atvs.

What I noticed is the when pulled spark plugs after 70-90k, they look like they've been firing good n' hot, like no fuel is left behind, no residue, no carbon, clean.

ATVs and small engines love it and start up Instantly, one pull.

I only use 1 ounce per tankful so it goes a Long way...

It is far less expensive than other brands of ethanol neutralizers and to me appears to work better.

Required, probably not, but I like it. Luck all.

 

Around here you have to go with premium for no ethanol. And only certain stations have it.

 

Been using Lucas Oil Fuel Treatment for years, about every 5 or 6 fills ups. Have never had an issues w/any of my trucks. Since I don't buy gas at the same stations, I feel it's a bit of protection and certainly can't hurt anything.

 

No, you misunderstood - it's not free of ethanol, the ethanol is free.

 

Must've had the same teacher; (Mrs. Eaton?) mine whacked the back of my left hand every time I changed from my right hand. That was 60 years ago; ALL the desks were right handed; clear thru college. ooops..I just dated myself. Hasn't bothered me at all at all at all

Been using 44k for a few years in my Tacoma before trading her. Great stuff!

 

I just started using the concentrated Seafoam fuel injector cleaner and upper cylinder lube. Autozone had it on sale for $3.99 so I’m going to run a few back-to-back and then at every oil change. I’m going to start using the StarTron at every fill up and have been looking for a reason to try it.

 

I don’t think it makes a difference on tundras.

GDI engines actually recommend it.

 

Have you considered Stabil 360. My marine guy told me it has Star Tron in it. I have not bothered to verify

 

The Marvel Mystery oil may cause issues down the road. I tried it in my 2006 Corolla XRS. My check engine light came on.

MMO is 70% Naphthenic Hydrocarbons. 29% Mineral Spirits. Used in gas its more of a upper cylinder lube than it is a cleaner. I was told the MMO flooded the cat and o2 sensors with oil/lubricant. In the old days with lower catalyst efficiency standards (pre-2002) there would be no issue. Today catalytic converters are held to a higher efficiency (+-90%). My cat may have been on the edge of efficiency (over 200,000 miles). However, I had to change the o2 sensor. Suggest you stick to the modern low oil PEA fuel system cleaners.

 

I use this in everything. I don’t think you can find it on shelves of stores. You have to find a rep that sales this, at least that’s the way it is here in my area. They have products for every type of use. I’ve run their product in my ole ford that has 270,000 miles on it (4.6L) and still running strong doing oil changes every 5k with Napa gold filter. Good product? Or just lucky?
