Upgrading/fixing 2001 Tundra suspension

Hey folks,
First post here! Im new to trucks in general. Ive got a 2001 Tundra with about 115k that needs some suspension work as it handles like crap and the rear is often bottoming out with not much load in it.
My goals are to increase handling, offroad performance and be able to handle carrying a load from time to time. Im about 95% on road driving.

Im looking into 6112 for the front, 5100 rear, rear sway bar, and possibly a new leaf pack or helper springs. Im curious which the better option is between helpers and a new leaf pack.

Is there anything else I should consider? Thanks!

Ive been looking into OME but I have yet to see a leaf spring kit for the 2001.

 

Try General Spring. I have an 02 and will be using them in the future. You can get an entire OE kit for around $500 with bushings, bolts, u-bolts, etc. They are US built and made to spec. Can’t vouch, but a few others say real good things. They cost way less than these other baller name brands which get thrown around here. Not knocking them, but at twice the cost?

General also sells a heavy duty version for a little more. HD is used for carrying campers, tow/haul, etc. on a FULL time basis. Not needed without all/full time load.

As for the shocks, I have Billys 5100 all around and they handle very nicely on the road which sounds like you’ll be 95% of the time. They are firm and sporty. Highly recommend. I have 285/75/r16 shocks with Michelin e-rated ‘stiffer’ tires. Great for tow/haul.

Hellwig 7700 rear sway bar. This is one of the best things I did for street handling. Absolutely Amazing. Also, had my front original Toy sway bar reconnected after the links rusted off years ago. That in itself helped, but adding the rear sway bar was a huge bonus. You’ll be stoked!

I had my front end rebuilt almost 2 years ago with new lower control arms and a slew of other stuff. Your truck may be a candidate based on age and what others come through here describe.

Plan on about $5-6k on labor and parts to get her like brand new fighting shape, depending on how much you DIY.

So I pulled the trigger on a General Spring HD leaf pack, 5100s for the rear, and 6112s. I ordered the 2wd version of the 6112 as it should theoretically come with a lighter spring which should match the weight of my v6 more closely.

Thanks for all the input. Ill write up a review in a couple weeks when Ive installed everything and had a chance to get some miles on it.

 

Just finished with the install on the rears (leafs and 5100s) but still need to torque everything down before I drive it.
Serious question....do 2001 Tundras have a rear sway bar? This install is the first time ive been under the truck (second owner) and there isnt a sway bar...*scratching my head
