Item stuck in air vent...

    Has anyone had something get stuck in the air vent? My wife bought me a clip-on scent deal and it got bumped and a small plastic piece fell into the air vent. Now everytime I turn the air up high, and sometimes when I turn I can hear it rattling around in there. I tried using a vacuum, to no avail. Any suggestions?

    Might be a longshot, but what about one of those grabber tools that are flexible with the claw? I know you cant see anything down the vent, but maybe that can grab it and pull it out?

    Not sure but I'm thinking you will have to take the dash apart. Even to be able to get a vacuum hose down in there far enough.

    How far did it go down? If you switch to all foot direction does it sound like it is above or below the damper?

    Yea that's what I'm afraid is the case...was hoping to avoid the entire breakdown of the dash.

    I hadn't thought to try all foot direction, but on normal air flow it sounds like it's pretty close to the damper, so my guess would be just below.

    Surely, you've tried this...Shut off all the vents except the offender, set the HVAC to dash outlets, and fan speed to maximum.

    If that doesn't work, then buy yourself a BA Shop-Vac with the 2.5" hose, and draw on the vent while running max fan speed. (Not responsible for damage to vent louvers, ducts, blower, cabin filter, etc! :D)

    Something along these lines was going to be my suggestion. Also rigging a small half inch or three-quarter hose to the end of your vacuum and shoving it down the vent could help. Also try removing the cabin air filter and see if it’s down near one of the dampeners.

    Lost track after #1.
    Could always try sticking some duct tape on a wire hanger and sticking it down there to see if a little luck will land the object on the tape. Might get the tape stuck down there too tho lol.

    There is a little pocket cup like indent down there and it should be in there. Try some plumbers putty or sumtin on a clothes hanger and bend it so it goes down straight behind the vent. I had a small screw and an Allen wrench go in there and got both out with a magnet. Good luck

    Thanks for the input y’all. I ended up closing all the vents, sealing the vent it was stuck in, except for a small opening through which I fit a narrow nozzle on my shop vac to get it out!

    Yes I got a Twinkie lost in the air duct of an old Ranger work truck ( long story ) used a mirror on a telescoping wand with a thumb plunger grabby tool, like 2' long. Had 4 "fingers" or what not that extended when the pluger was depressed. Hope that helps...

    I did the same thing with the Air Freshener (tab broke right off - down the Vent it went) and I then tried this shop vac method. I think it worked where I do not hear the rattle anymore when I ran the fan/blower on at all speeds. Will write back if the rattle reappears after driving for a bit - Thanks for the idea/method.
