What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I WILL own another first Gen Tacoma, so I'll be watching...

 

Um, I would put a deposit down on that today... I'm not joking...

 

My goal was to always go longtube JBA headers but a set of never installed shorties popped up on FB market place so...i bought em. Not sure if I'll go this route or not but I'm impulsive...

Lazy man's question, but... Have we established there isn't a leather Toyota wheel that will just swap over?
Sequoia, Avalon,Tundra or such?

 

According to @empty_lord there is a bunch of wheels that will fit. According to the shape I've found a lot also just from looking on ebay. The issue is that I couldn't find any that looked decent for under maybe $150. The wrap cost $30.

 

$120 saved is a free tire.

 

Especially if you're like me and you don't factor your time into the cost until it comes time to sell the vehicle.

 

anything with the dual power airbag should fit (except on tundras with the old wheel. i think 00-02). All you have to do for NEW wheels is repin the connector to the spiral cable. wheel controls are all through 3 wires (4 on some new cars). there are 5 unused pins in our spiral cables if i remember right. me personally im planing ona newer 4runner/taco/tundra steering wheel

 

if i were to factor in labor time to my truck.. well shit it'd be smarter to buy a brand new one

finished installing my custom seat covers from Caltrend; turned out good IMO.

 

The description on eBay says it's only for 03-06 Tundras, I wonder if it will still work for me? Hoping to get my wheel wrapped too because you guys are bad for my wallet.

 

Might be looking for custom seat covers if the man w/38 years experience in upholstery redoing my drivers seat is not successful to my satisfaction.

 

Good news: I got the diff drop installed.


Bad news, my year-old CV is blowing grease, and my axle seal my be leaking now. And also, the diff drop didn’t fix the vibrations. I’m starting to hate this truck.

 

Will the front drive shaft cause vibrations even in 2wd?

 

Typically if you get the vibration in 2wd from the front diff, it’ll go away if you put it in 4x4

and unless your hubs are stuck locked, the front drive shaft is never spinning in 2wd.

My original interior is pristine, so I put on these covers before they get any wear. Hoping to permanently avoid the need for seat repair. Getting increasingly difficult to find good auto upholstery shops, it's a dying craft. Post picks of your finished work when you get it back.

Got it. That’s what I thought. I have worse vibration in 4wd, so I guess I’ll replace that u joint and see what that does.

 

Cheap cv axles? Center bearing, u joint, tire balance... it can be slot of things

 

@lsaami when I had my u joints inspected the took off the drive shaft and showed me on their machine how it was out of balance. They rebalanced it. I wasn't having any vibrations though. Have you checked your shaft?

Been replaced? And if it has was the flange reinstalled then right way? If it’s not then your balance may be off. Vibrations will also happen if all the u joints are not in line

 

Not when I have new center bearing, new tires. All I need is a new u-joint and that’s all I’ve got. It vibrated before the new CV axles, so I’d probably say those are fine.

 

Who did the center bearing.

 

Me. I lined it up with a symmetrical gap on either side. Replaced it with a OEM Spicer unit.

 

You marked the flange and put it back where it was? And you put the shaft back together the same way?


I’d almost just take the whole shaft off and take it to a driveline shop.


Or try the drive shaft off your donor truck
