Bolt on sliders for 3rd Gen?

I've already used the search tool and found one thread. Curious if anyone has found a bolt on rock slider option for 3rd gen tundra (2017) and specifically, what existing holes in the frame were used, size and thickness of back plates and how many additional holes were drilled?? Also, are any of the OEM threaded holes in the bottom of the frame used? I'll be fabricating my own but curious about mounting options. Thanks.

Those Slee's are quite beefy. Darn good slider.

 

Mine are from Demello, Rock Crusher sliders. Bolt on but had to drill a few holes in on bottom, the sides on top used holes in frame.

 

Victory4x4 makes a nice set as well. 3 holes drilled on each side.

 

I was lucky enough to have a friend help install, he did all the drilling! Hot and sharp metal, any drilling would need lots of protection!!

 

Very happy with mine. I fell off a ledge in Moab this week and bounced hard on the slider. There’s a scuff in the powder coat is that is hardly noticeable.

 

Slee's are a bit pricey but "cry once buy once"Made locally to me anyways in Golden, CO.

 

Thanks for the replies and pics of the bolt ons. I looked at the SDHQ but just for what the mounting kit looks like. I'm fabricating my own. I actually learned how to weld and built up a 2000 land cruiser. Sold it a month or so ago and picked up a 2017 crew max 4x4. But not wanting to weld on sliders at this point. I guess I'll be drilling a few holes then. I figured with the larger side holes, those had to be used with backing plates, which I see Slee used. I'll be using 1/4" thick backing plates then. I'm assuming something similar was used for the mounting bolts that went up from under the frame, i.e., backing plates inside the frame? I did see a couple smaller (3/8") threaded holes under the frame, but I'm assuming there's got to be more than just two underside bolts being used.

Is there anyone who's welding/fabricating their own? Haven't read many posts where guys/gals are welding their own stuff.

 

Pretty rare. There’s been a few guys that have made their own but I don’t think they were making them for anyone else. Maybe check your local welding shop?

 

Oh I don't need a welding shop. I have my own 220 gas mig, oxy/acetylene and 220 plasma cutter. I make as much of my own stuff as possible. I armored up my old Land Cruiser myself including a double swing out rear bumper. That was a job

 

If I had my own equipment, I'd try to make my own, too. I'm not the best welder, but I can booger weld with the best of them! But yeah, like someone else said, most folks on here are like me and don't fabricate their own stuff. A few do, though.

I think the links to the pictures already posted give a good idea of the bolt-on mounting setups. I hate drilling on frames, especially when drilling upward. But the Tundra frames don't look to be as thick and beefy as the old Ford truck frames I've drilled in the past. So I'm thinking the few holes needing to be drilled shouldn't be too bad.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing what you come up with. So please post pictures and a write-up of your slider build!

Sas, thanks. I found the P&P, but I did not read every post that didn't indicate bolt-on slider in the caption after doing the search. Having to read dozens and dozens of posts, several that are over a year old, and many which aren't on topic, is reason enough for my post. Weird, the Victory didn't show up when I did my search. I've since found the SDHQ sliders. I suppose I should have clarified that I was looking for someone who fabbed their own as I just wanted to see what OEM holes, if any, were used for install. I've since confirmed what I assumed, i.e., that some holes would need to be drilled and that backing plates are required. Thanks again for policing but wasn't trying to be redundant.

Diesel, thanks for the tip. Such great info and guidance on here. I will be fabricating my own, probably going to use 2x2 square tubing, similar to Pinay's sliders. Won't require any tube bending. However, I will likely add additional gussets. I won't be wheeling my truck hard, but prefer to overbuild these types of things. Thanks again.

Why did you switch from the White Knuckle to Demello’s?

 

I didn’t. Demello’s are all I’ve had. I did almost sell em to get White Knuckle over Black Friday but got wheels instead...

Demello’s are awesome and quality sliders and am very happy with em!! The White Knuckle with the thicker dom would provide the most protection...
