Appreciate this for sure man. I’m honestly thinking of doing most of the maintenance and suspension stuff before I even decide to mess w the body. I’ll see about sanding or remove the rust spots throughout and hopefully paint it up within a year or so.

So I called a local dealership and basically said I have 2 open recalls, both regarding rusted frame/chassis. Going in once I get my primary car back and they’re gonna do inspection. Here’s to hoping I can get this baby a new frame :amen:

My two cents are echoing others here but with MORE emphasis: TIMING BELT FIRST! If you can't positively verify that belt has been replaced in the last 50,000 miles on the official Toyota owners website or other "Official" records it should be your first and main concern. Really!

Inspect it yourself THOROUGHLY first....and research Toyota's position on what condition leads to what action on their part so you can manage your expectations/actions.

Hopefully your inspection shows nothing, but if it does show frame rust issues, you will know what to do to get the best outcome for yourself when you take it in...

Theres some very minor rusting, guess it’s up to the dealership/Toyota’s super specific standards eh? Lord knows I’d love an entire new frame  inspection in less than 2 weeks!

Do your homework. Toyota is not going to give it to you if the frames not beyond iffy to their standard! Toyota is not on your side rooting for you. What's minor rusting on the frame to you? Surface rust, rust that chips off the frame with a scraper in certain places, rust that chips off and gives way to rust holes in the frame. Do a car fax to know if the trk lived in the snow or if it didn't!

Now that you own it, get under there with a scraper to make holes in the frame due to rust because they're not going to do it for you! Remove the spare tire from underneath and look for rust hidden there. Look where suspension support is welded to frame for rust through or weakening.

I can't believe people buy these 1st gen trks w/o doing their homework and learn to first inspect the frames for rust, and everything else under there. Toyota replaces the frame only, and not the other rusted out components below the body. Check the body mount frame attachments for rust through. If the body itself to frame is rusted through, good luck! Just like they will not replace a rusted through differential.

Please show pics of everything rusted underneath if you can.

Trust me I made sure none of THAT was found before purchasing, I def appreciate the concern! There is no holes or flaking anywhere on the frame/chassis/diffWhere there is rust is the hood, and portions of the lower body by the wheel wells. After some research the vehicle was sold & originally owned in Missouri btw.. I’ll get photos later today. I’m still having Toyota inspect, well bc shit you never know.

No harm in that...but if it's as described the best you will get is an offer of coating....which you don't want, IMHO.

Regardless seems like you got a great deal, enjoy...

When you said "I'd love an entire new frame" I thought it's rusted through in places, and there was a chance Toyota would replace it.
Good to hear the frame has no rust at all.
