Highest mileage 1st Gen. Thread?

Thank you. I’m going to probably finish this year since I’m already in but I’ve already started about dropping out of school to my parents and I think they have realized the toll it put on me, as they are more accepting when I say I want to get a trade.

 

Just to be clear, I'm not encouraging you to drop out. But I am saying that if you like working with your hands, there may be other options for you. Certainly do not drop out unless you have a concrete plan. Do some research, talk to people. Good luck!

 

Everything I really enjoy doing is with my hands, I just can’t see myself behind a desk my whole life. I’d rather be out there and being able to be like “I did this” and be proud of it like when I work on my truck.

 

I’m in Washington too and was in your situation, there is a really good trade school on the east side. I ended up going to trade school and doing instrumentation and loved it. You get out in 2 years and everyone in my class got a great career. I currently work for a gas company and work with my hands all the time yet still get to be clean if I choose to be. also fact. The construction industry specifically is a bit polarizing, but it’s super hot right now. I went to school for IT/business and worked as a laborer/carpenter to pay my way through school. When I graduated, my boss offered me a job matching/beating the pay I’d get in the IT world to move into the office. So now I’m an Assistant Project manager for a commercial GC. Because I work for a GC, I get to see a bit of every trade and everyone is busy and can’t find enough workers.

 

@2000Strong I'm a master electrician and have been doing it for 15 years. It's the middle of the slow time of year and we have tons of work still. I was doing 50-60 hour weeks through November. The great thing about a lot of the trades is you don't even need to go to school, it's all on the job training. Currently I'm trying to go through school and get my electrical engineering degree, and it's pretty hard. So realize that if you get to where you have a good paying job, trying to go to school and work a full time job will be difficult unless you go for an easy degree.

 

You know how we roll. We get past the first page and it's fair game for !

 

Yeah I understand, but I really with how much I enjoy doing anything with my hands even fixing my radio I just can’t see myself flying a desk for my life.

You have more than enough time to decide what you want to do with your life. Get into a trade or profession that picks YOU. You may not know what it is right now but you’ll find out when you fall into it.
Prime example is me. And please don’t take this as bragging. just an example of what I said above.
I started as a delivery driver/technician for a medical equipment company. Fast forward 26, almost 27 years, I’m in the top 10% of my company in sales and make 6 figures a year. Business comes to me and I don’t have to go find it. It’s not a physically demanding job but definitely mentally demanding. I tried once to get out of the business but it had a hold on me and my heart is in it.
So that being said man, when your career finds you, you’ll know it. Be patient and learn everything you can. Like the old saying goes...

406,000 miles on my tundra. Routine maintence and a couple timing belts/water pumps. Other than that all original and runs like a top

Ah yes I forgot the ball joints. It’s had one set installed after the factory’s went out. Its due for a new set as we speak.

What suspension components have been replaced over the years?

 

What do your exhaust manifolds sound like? A lot of leaks, only when cold?

 

I appreciate it brother! And as far as suspension and driveline goes it’s had ball joints replaced, new shocks all the way around when it got the leveling kit, and a new carrier bearing. I may be forgetting something but that’s what I can remember off the top of my head.

 

It’s honestly not that bad. Just a slight tick when you first start but once it’s warm it’s hardly noticeable even on the throttle.

 

Dont worry about mileage. I purchased my 05 DC with 200k now it's up to just over 300k and still runs like it's new. I'm second owner and it was always serviced at dealership until I purchased it. I do my own maintenance and repairs. This thing will make it another 300k so dont be afraid of hi mileage on these beasts. Getting ready to do timing and pump..

 

My 1st gen is about to turn 380,000 on the original motor. Amazing what an on time timing belt changes do

 

I have an 04 Double Cab TRD, that will be going up for sale soon. It has 197k on the clock and still runs like the day it was new. All I have ever done to it is regular maintenance, timing belts and water pump and brakes when it needed them. I would drive it anywhere with no worries.

 

My 2000 limited TRD access cab just turned 385,000 miles yesterday and it also has the original engine with only regular maintenance performed. Working toward my 4th timing belt/water pump replacement. I change mine every 110,000 miles. They are amazing trucks that seem to last forever !!!! I bought mine new April 2000 with 45 miles.

 

I just rolled 250k a month ago towing a 4500# trailer helping my son move into an apartment. Runs great. Excited to see the 500k truck! I have no plans to trade this one in, its just right. All original equipment engine wise.

 

My goal is to get at least 500,000 miles on mine. It has no leaks,uses no oil and still has all kinds of power! I drive it everyday. It's my work truck.

 

2006 with 232K. Heading to Alaska this summer!
