Another vote for Dirty Deeds...

 

8” Dirty! My buddy has the exact same truck that I have and he had Corsa. He switched to a 6” Dirty Deeds shortly after. We again compared the 6”
and 8” side by side. I still prefer the 8” since it had a deeper rumble and not as loud on regular cruising speed.

Mine is a custom Dirty Deeds stainless steel cat-back utilizing 3 different length mufflers, front to back: 16", 10" and 8.5" after the Y-pipe. The goal was to keep the truck as quiet as possible at idle & cruising, but without sacrificing any potential power gains. I use a single tail pipe that dumps behind the rear axle right after the last hanger, it produces intoxicating sounds that include an occasional pop & burble. I am also enjoying noticeable power gains without losing low end torque.

Keith knocked this one out of the park.

I hadn't heard the cold start up. That sounds really good. I wonder what the equivalent muffler size would be on the regular standard system connected to a full tailpipe - to sound like yours. I had a 12 inch standard system back in the day, and yours (even slightly dumped) sounds a little quieter/less throaty (in a GOOD way) than the 12 inch????

 

I did the dirty deed and got the whole 8 inches

 

Anyone have any thoughts on the FlowMaster Outlaw? Drone issues? Sound quality? I know the DD is the best, any I think waiting for some $$ to come in is worth the wait.

 

I got the @dirtydeeds TRD Replacement System 5x18. Was a tad bit tamer than what I wanted, but still sounds good.

Is there any thread for exhaust sound comparison? Most likely there is, but not using all the same recording setup and criteria (e.g., cold start, no load, under load, .

 

Here’s mine. 6 inch with the stock tail pipe and no Helmholtz resonator installed. First start up after installation a few years ago. Don’t mind my wife and dogs barking in the background.

That's sort-of how my Borla XP-Pro sounds. Everyone seems to like it.

OP...I built a great catback for under 300 bucks. Got the muffler for $125 then another $90 for the piping from a muffler shop, then spent 60 on a set of 18" x 3.5" tips. I read that the tips wouldn't do much, if anything, but they made a huge difference. It went from OK to exactly what I wanted. Has a very fluid, smooth-sounding rumble. I haven't heard another truck like it. It has a bit of drone that is the same at basically any speed. I would say it's probably less than any of the loud systems. The volume is mild, but but plenty noticeable. The Youtube videos for the XP Pro are worthless though.

 

I can hear the rasp in your video - not a bad thing, just more aggressive. Rex's had a real crisp sound to it that I've never heard in any of the 6,7,8,10,12 inch BAmuffler videos I've heard or my experience using Keith's 8 and 12 inch standard systems. All those systems have some level of rasp and/or growl to them.

 

Yeah his is a pretty unique set up. One long muffler and a short one for the other side and then a third muffler after they come together. Add that to his short wheelbase, and he gets a unique sound from it.

 

I’m tripping on that set up. Not in a bad way. I’m assuming that longer muffler is for the passenger side. Is it that way because that is a shorter route, so the longer muffler can keep that side a little quieter, and the shorter one coming from the driver side has a longer route to go, Making that muffler just as effective? Then the third one to mellow it all out. Interesting and I like it. Sorry I’m having a hard time trying to explain what I’m thinking, but I think you catch my drift.

 

I love my TRD exhaust. Great sound for these trucks and have 0 regrets. I've spoke with Keith at @dirtydeeds and can tell he is a stand up guy. Based on all his happy customers, you can't go wrong with either exhaust.

 

I hear you. I'm in the process of going from the TRD exhaust back to stock, because I want quiet. I know I'll miss the rumble of the TRD, but I do a lot of driving so the quiet will be nice. That is, until I heard the tone of the Frankenstein system. Now I'm thinking. And like you, would love to understand the physics behind the Frankenstein system.....

 

I had been running my stock muffler with a resonated dump in front of the axle for over a year, and shared my experience with it with Keith. We traded messages and had a couple phone calls before I green lighted to build, but the final design is all Keith. I believe your assumption is on track, but only Keith knows for sure... he didn't have much space to work with.

 

Frankenstein System Group Buy????

 

I love my Frankenstein System, and first & foremost - it proves that Keith listens to what his customers tell him they are looking for and then he delivers. My tail pipe is 24" shorter than standard, and that factored into Keith's final design. I am not using the BAMuffler resonator, but I may install it just to see what happens because I do experience some drone in the cab at different RPMs in different gears.

 

Same here! Loved it minus the cabin drone during long trips - the resonator took care of that though. Love @dirtydeeds
