When I got my Tundra I really wanted something a little smaller but folks convinced me that the lower revving V8 would outlast the V6 and highway fuel economy was not all that different. The Tundra suffers in the city with stop and go fuel economy and don't get me started on parking garages, but I am glad I made the choice I did. Also the insuranc premiums were considerably higher for a Tacoma - presumably because it tends to be an offroad boy toy. For mileage I drive conservatively on the highway - watching that fuel economy guage when you floor it or run at higher RPMs is very enlightening. Fully empty I can do 21 on the highway but my overall average in town and hwy is about 16

I also believe this to be true my wife had a Yaris and that thing you had to rev to the moon to get it to go anywhere and while she did like the car (called it her bug) I am glad we no longer have it.

Welcome and enjoy that new truck. My wife said if we can afford a Tundra we can afford to put the gas in it. No arguing there. i'm pretty certain none of us here bought our trucks for the mileage :)

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. Fuel economy is important to me but longevity and reliability are also important. I was going to wait until the 2021 but it's not expected until the spring of 2022. I really didn't want to buy the first model year so that meant two and a half year wait. Also there was a possibility the 2021 might not be as good as the proven previous version. My 2018 Tacoma's fuel pump started making noise, had a misaligned blind spot monitor for no apparent reason and both lower ball joints had play and it would not pass the safety check. The Tundra had 4K of the price so the decission was made.

Did the same. 2002 Tacoma 198,700, Frame failed. Still ran perfect never added oil.
2019 DC sport. Taco was getting 15-16 around town, Tundra 13-14, and 18 on highway was the best.

Only three weeks of ownership and already install a hard tonneau cover, side steps, sill protectors, tow mirrors, LED headlight a fog, Husky mats, front hitch, led interior lights and rear seat fold down mod.

door sill protectors are a must have imo

OEM tow mirrors? I’ve considered them but haven’t needed them yet for anything I pull

what’s this rear seat fold down mod you speak of?

It allows you to fold down the rear seat similar to the Tacoma double cab. It's an easy mod to do. Simply remove the bolts and lift the seat off the rear hooks. Remove a bit of material and now the seat back can be folded down. Gives some more storage space behind the seat. Won't work for the CM so your out of luck. :(

I've since added a black backer board on the back of the seat.
