    Can't seem to find much info on the pedal commander for 1st gens. Mixed reviews on these, some glowing, some say after a few months all trouble codes. My 06 DC 4x4 has what feels like a real touchy gas pedal, and I'd prefer a bit more zip when accelerating from the 45-50 mile range on up. Perhaps just plugs/wires and/or those 12hole fuel injectors, but someone suggested the pedal commander; was the first I'd heard of it.

    The touchy pedal is an issue the plagues many toyotas from this era. my Avalon and tundra both have sensitive pedals.. i have yet to find a fix for the tundra, but my avalon a 2011 camry gas pedal made it 10x better

    The 2002 Tundra 4.7 V8 has a brake throttle cable that can be fine tuned via tightening at the throttle body. Also, the cable can be secured in its bracket on the exterior mount to keep slight play from occurring which helps tremendously.

    A solid tune up never hurts. Some fine tuning can make all the difference. Clean: Throttle body, MAF sensor, air filter, oil, manifold/fuel injector and valves via SeaFoam, etc.

    With all that said, not sure about your 2006.

    Went back and re-read that you want extra zip between 40-50mph. Maybe you can explain better about your touchy pedal.

    Is the transmission slipping? Truck bogging? Pedal not responding?... at the 40-50mph.

    Lack of proper fluid levels (low) can make the transmission slip. Old fluid the same. Bad cats can bog a truck at those speeds. Your year truck has the funky air by-pass which can cause problems, as well.

    I have an '05 DC 4x4. Have had a Pedal Commander for about 1.5 years. Extremely pleased! Can't imagine going back to stock.

    A lot of discussion threads about such here on the forum.

    Whats your take before and after? Did you have the OP’s same problem and the pedal thingy fixed it?

    I did not experience the touchy pedal syndrome, but rather wanted something to alleviate the lag in initial acceleration.

    Stomping down on the pedal DOES NOT change the lag in the throttle body with the stock programming. The attached YouTube video on the Sprint Booster is a good example of how this technology works—the same technology as Pedal Commander.



    A lot of 'fake news' out there about this technology. The Pedal Commander does not generate additional horsepower, or better gas mileage (unless you have it set to vastly reduce throttle input and thus performance), or a faster quarter mile. But what it does do is eliminate acceleration lag. My Tundra now accelerates more like an electric car—smoother and quicker. Worth the money? It all depends on what you want.

    A few months ago I disconnected the PC to compare with the stock setting. The difference was profound! I may have created my own problem, as I cannot imagine going back to stock.

    Not for everyone, but if you want to smooth out your acceleration with a 10 minute install, this is a legit and simple solution.

    I wonder what the differences are concerning the throttle cable in early 1st Gens compared to the later 1st Gens without cable? And how the Pedal Commander effects each?

    My 2002 had maybe a 1/4” play on the gas pedal (from dead zero to first push) before tuning it up by tightening. It has that electric car feel as you describe. Never experienced an acceleration lag as OP states.

    Great question. I know Pedal Commander only works with drive-by-wire, so probably not available for earlier models.

    Like the op and some others, my 03 is also touchy off idle. Explosively so in fact.

    I’ve contemplated the pedal commander as well. But $300, just to change the throttle response profile, I just can’t convince myself to do it. I just live with it.

    Do realize, it only changes the throttle blade response to the pedal position. There is no change in the engine. No increased power, no increased efficiency.

    Install slightly larger tires to reduce some of that off the line snap.

    The throttle cable went away in the 2003 models.

    I started driving my dads first gen taco with 5vzfe and A340 back in 2003 as a learner and later bought it from him in 2012. And of course now have had my 96 tundra for over a year. I know what surge y'all are talking about upon accelerating from a stop, however it's never really bothered me, and the acceleration with the vvti is pretty smooth, even smoother with the 12.hole injectors and a smooth intake tube. As a buddy of mine put it once, "somehow Toyota managed to simulate decent off the line throttle response." But I've never taken issue with it. I guess I'm used to it. Sometimes I watch the tach as the rooms flare up fast with the pedal down from a stop and then the truck takes.off. but it's such a fragment of second that I doesn't bother me.
