DV8 Bumper (First time poster)

Long time lurker on everyone's post for info on my first tundra and now my second. Want to start off by saying thanks to everyone for all the great information everyone has shared. I have gotten some great ideas. With gas prices high I'm probably like most just a dreamer for the time being.

That being said I was recently in an accident in what I would consider my brand new truck. (2014 with 30k miles) Light turned green and I slowly proceeded forward as I was greated by a Kia soul hybrid. I was doing roughly 10mph at the time of collision. Truck hardly flinched and the car slid away. The driver had ran the red light and when he noticed he decided to speed up! I immediately checked on the passenger of the car before my baby. Passenger was fine but my baby had a kia door stuck to the bumper. All said and done the kia was totalled buckled the doors on the opposite side and deployed all air bags. Guess you can say my Tundra has taken a soul...

To the bumper (if you are still there). I wanted an aftermarket bumper to mount a whinch. Also wanted one that was practical as I use my truck for things most won't. Found the DV8 bumper on eBay and used the insurance money to get it. I understand that it maybe a knock off but didn't want my butt to bleed when I rubbed the first tree. Have had it for 2 months now and love it. I have not mounted a winch yet but will be soon. The fit and finish are awesome for the price $600 with free shipping. Pushed a tree over I was cutting down to see the strength and didn't even leave a mark. I called multiple times skeptical about what others had said and Everytime awesome customer service. It shipped and was to me in 2 days. I will attach photos but wanted to reach out to those that might be on the diving board. Feel free to ask any questions.

Just an FYI the Tundra had damage to the bumper corner, grill, and plastic piece. Couldn't be more impressed as I didn't budge in my seat with no buckle.

I just ordered both a front and rear bumper from KO Offroad, who re-sells DV8 Offroads bumpers last week on Thursday. They said it would be here in about 5 days, but Ive yet to get a tracking number from them.

UPDATE:

I called and spoke with DV8 Offroad and they confirmed that KO Offroad did have my bumpers drop shipped to me. They are already here in Houston where I live and will be out for delivery to my home this afternoon. That was some serious fast shipping considering I pretty much didnt order these until right before the weekend and now they are here on Tuesday! I will update again with some pictures once I recieve them.

By the way I ordered from KO Offroad because they were cheaper than ordering directly from DV8. Also incase anyone is curious, DV8 verified that the rear bumper is compatible with our factory hitch without modifications.

 

Do the DV8 bumpers have location to install the parking sensors?

 

To the OP, did yours come powder coated? I would want to LineX mine but just wondering. Still not sold. Don’t want to spend $$$ on something “everyone” has.

No they dont but their are videos on YouTube of how to very easily do this. You just need a drill bit that looks like a mini ice cream cone to make the hole, takes about 5 mins total. Very easy.

 

Its funny you say "something that everyone has". I know a lot of Tundra owners in Texas and none of them have these or had even heard of them. Yes they come powder coated. Im sure you could have a coating put over it. The powder coating seems very good. You will definitely have enough money left over from the money you save buying theirs to customize it how ever you want. The cheapest place to buy them and get free shipping is KO Offroad. They post them on EBay too.

 

Yes, I didn’t mean to say that everyone has these. My comment was aimed at the typical looking bumpers many tundra owners seem to acquire and that I have been apprehensive to go “full replacement” due to the lack of options.

Yeah i agree with you there. My situation was dictated more so out of necessity. For starters, I drive 550 miles across Texas at night to go to work. Ive hit 3 deer in 3 months in my 2005 Tundra 4x4. Luckily it has a level kit, 34" tires and a pipe bumper so they have not done any damage and just get sucked under. Now I have my 2014 Tundra and I know sooner or later im going to hit another deer at 75 mph. So the looks is not nearly as important to me as protecting the truck. Last, i go hunting in October and the property is very much "unimproved". Ive been stuck before out in the middle of nowhere and had to use my winch. So having a winch on my 2014 Tundra now was very important. For $600, this bumper solves both those issues.

 

Holy crap that's nuts. What do you do? Kudos to you for actually using a bumper and not just bolting one up for looks

Yeah I am not about "looks" at all. It drives me crazy that I have to replace perfectly good wheels to get the offset needed to clear 35s. I've never bought after market wheels in my life. These will be the 1st. I always made fun of and still make fun of these big trucks with huge lifts, that put these wide wheels on these tires and stretch them to a 10 speed bike tire. They are all looks. If they tried to jump a curb, they would bend a wheel and possibly pinch a side wall on the tire. If I cant hit a curb at 30 mph and my tire be ok, then the wheel is too big or the tire not big enough.

 

So I the bumpers sat wrapped up until my Engo 12,000 winch arrived today. I went to unwrap the bumpers and wow, these bad boys were wrapped very well to ensure no damage. It was about 5 layers of material (shipping wrap, white thin foam, more shipping wrap, then a heavy duty foam almost like what goes in tool drawers to line them, then more tape, then cardboard, then more shipping wrap. No way these were going to get damaged during shipping. It took me like 10 minutes to cut away all the wrapping... lol. Anyways, the "crinkle" powder coating on them looks amazing. I am very happy with them and they exceeded my expectations. The winch installed very easily. The front bumper comes with two parts. The section where the winch mounts to, and then the outer shell of the actual bumper which bolts to the winch plate. Honestly this design makes the whole bumper much more manageable, especially with a winch installed, as you are not having to lift a 250 lb bumper and winch all at once. Instead you lift about 135 lbs of winch plate and winch, and then the rest of the bumper which is about 115 lbs goes on over that piece. In my opinion this was a very smart design. The winch is installed now on the winch plate, and I had to create new wires to relocate the solenoid box, as I personally like to remote mount my solenoid on the inside of the engine bay. This allows you to easily replace the solenoid in the future should it ever fail and not have to remove the entire front bumper to simply replace a solenoid. So I spent most of my time tonight making new thicker longer cables for the winch, "clocking" the angle of the clutch engagement handle on the winch to match the opening in the bumper, and installing the winch. I will take some more pictures after the bumper is actually installed in the next upcoming day. I love these bumpers though so far. They are by far the best deal I have ever seen on a full front end replacement bumper, especially being "winch ready".

What lights are yall mounting to this? (for the fog locations)

 

I’ve since sold my truck, but I remember the place I bought it from was offered lights. I’m guessing that they were round 2.5” lights W/ hardware. Mine were bright as hell.
Then I added some 5” inch ones to the bull bar which I got off of eBay.

I went cheap so if they got broken I could just another set.

I got the front bumper about two years ago after hitting a deer here in North Carolina. Did a bunch of damage and replaced all damaged parts with the DV8 front bumper. Still love it. Gonna have to look into the rear bumper now. When I got the front I don't think they had released the rear bumper yet. It is a solid front bumper, especially for the money.

 

@SMK Shoe did your front come with lights?

 

Nope, no lights. but got a set of fairly cheap ebay's and they have worked pretty darn good for the last couple years. Just hard to spend a few hundred $$$ on lights that hardly get used.
