I know on my SR5 grill, the center would pop out for inserts.

My truck was in the shop and the TRD grilles are actually on back order. I didn't believe it but confirmed with Roman. I need to get the thing done and I was on the fence about the TRD grill and the DB Customz grill anyway.

Shop is throwing a platinum grill on me for now so I can have the color matched surround. Will the center section on this remove for this insert? Going to order it in color matched lettering (blazing blue pearl).

I really like that custom grill. Everyone has the TRD PRO grill and you'll stand out more with that.
Looks like these guys got their idea from @csuviper :D

@boardude has that grille right? I think I remember reading it wasn't a simple swap out but was possible.

I am actually going back and forth right now with DB trying to figure that out haha.

Either color matched blazing blue pearl or I was thinking maybe silver? The BOSS coilovers going in are going to be silver and visible....

The shop that did mine had to 'break off' all the tabs to get it off...as per T-Rex destructions, oh well I did not like it anyways....

Too many TRD Pro grilles around for my liking....I need to be different!

I just read boardude's build and he only says it was a PITA. Is the DB costing you more? Just fricken do it! It'll look so good.

I personally think blue letters might be too much. Kinda like the silver idea. But we need @photoshopmaster to work some magic.

i feel like the blue is dark enough to where the lettering might get "lost"

Can't they give you a little discount since they won't need to buy the pro grille?

This is not a simple swap. It requires you to cut out the middle section of the grill insert and then drill it into the sides similiar to a grillcraft install. You will also need to drill into the grill surround on the bottom as the grill extends a little lower. Was kind of a PITA but I wasn't willing to cut up a Pro grill so I drilled it into the side of the surround which made it a little tougher.

^^HAHA, its really not that bad.

I would say just do it! The grill looks amazing and they can customize however you like with different colors, fonts and sayings. The one thing that I like is the middle section unbolts so I am going to see if I can get a second custom mid section made and then swap them out whenever. I posted some install pics on another thread too and trying to find those.

@boardude is it something thats relatively easy to figure out? I can have someone much more patient give me a hand. I just dont want to look at it and no idea if I'm cutting the right parts or not lol

Yeah its really not that bad.. I think it would be easier with the grill insert cutout which would give you more room to work with on the sides. I removed the insert completely and drilled into the surround. Once you have the sides drilled in then you just drill the bottom into the surround.

Ok so Im literally just cutting that entire center section out. Just leaving the surround. The drilling should be relatively easy because you're just drilling where the mount points/tabs are on the DB grill, right? Like your not measuring and shit

I'm close.....I just wish I knew what a plastidipped platinum grill looks like before I order this thing lol

I basically hate the look of the platinum grill though other than the color matched surround

    hmm....one more thought.

black wheels, blacked out badges, black spider headlights and I'm doing a black vinyl roof wrap

Should I go black "tundra" lettering?

Well if you want to drill directly into the surround like I did the grill insert is just held in with a dozen tabs or so which you can pop it right out. Although I think it was intended to drill into the sides of the existing grill insert once you cut away enough of the mid section. The guy at dbcustomz (I think his name is David) is super nice and willing to walk you through it. I would call him up and tell him the model and grill that you have and he can probably explain the best method of installing it on your grill.

Edit: No measuring and shit required

It would be fun if you could get some amber "EL Tape" and light the Tundra.

I suggest amber because I believe all 50 states allow amber light to be projected anywhere on/around the vehicle without restriction. :)
