Got my trd skid plate powder coated matte black and just got it back today. I think it turned out great! Can’t wait to put it on the truck this weekend.

They were able to take them off without damaging them. I applied new 3m adhesive and stuck them back on. The guy said they heated them up. Grabbed a razor blade and slide it behind the adhesive they really didn’t even ruin the original adhesive. They did a great job.

I think it’s gonna look a lot better under the MGM than the original color and won’t stick out. If I had a lighter colored truck I would have kept the original color. Plus that red really pops out of the black.

Those came with the skid plate. I think they recently replaced the old model with this one. The only difference is it comes with the red letters. Also the guy only charged me $50 for it so it was a cheap way to make it look a lot better.

Edit: I also checked tufskinz website to see if they had any because I was worried that these ones would get messed up trying to take them off. They don't make them specifically for the Tundra because they didn't know this updated model existed, so they were nice enough to send me over the ones for the 4runner and tacoma with the hopes that one will fit, free of charge. I'll give those a try and update post. :fingerscrossed:

Got it installed Saturday. What a pain in the ass lol. I did it by myself but would definitely be much easier with another person who can get under the truck with you. Didn’t help that it was 28 degrees and snowing and I can’t pull my truck into the garage on ramps lol. So it took me about 2 hours to install. And many fucks and cold hands later I got it on. It looks amazing. Pictures don’t do it justice with the power coat. Note the tow hooks are coated in woolwax if anyone is wondering. The skid plate itself is very solid and much better than that flimsy pos that they put on it from stock. Will make oil changes much much easier as well. Overall very happy with how it turned out.

Agree a total pain in the ass and expensive too.

BTW: Did you ensure you had all the hardware configured properly...especially the wedge washers on the rear mounts? Even so, it will prolly start popping and squeaking...most of them do because the design has the skid touching the crossmember. Everything flexes and the skid plate will begin to make noise. If yours does this there are threads where a rubber gasket material is used to go between the skid and crossmember. I had to add this to mine to get it to be quiet.

I coated the whole top of this in woolwax so it shouldn’t squeak. Yeah I took a picture of them to make sure they were in the right orientation after torquing to spec.

I got it powder coated as soon as I got it delivered. I wouldn’t want to take it off and powder coat it lol. Also for anyone wondering. The red lettering is from tufskinz. They don’t make one specifically for the tundra because they didn’t know the new tundra one came with the stamped letters. But they were generous enough to send me over ones they already make for the Tacoma and 4Runner as a guinea pig. The Tacoma 2016+ fit perfect. The ones I installed are the matte trd red.
