What have you done to your 2.5 gen Tundra today?

Installed the LED Bed Lights today. Still not sure why this feature isn’t stock.

 

How was it? That's something I want to tackle but I hate wiring with a passion.

 

I went to Home Depot and bought some aluminum flat stock. I think it was like 1.5 or 2 inches wide by 1/4" thick. Cut to length of the center section.
Place in under the bed rail cap, then you can tighten the bolts, without crushing the bed rail cap.

 

It wasn't too bad just followed the details in the instructions closely and also had this post which was helpful too. Thanks @BlueBottle for the detailed write up.

The worst part was getting the first T-Tap on the Pin 30 wire since I've got big hands and was hard to reach in there but got it done.

Very happy to have this now as I'd been sitting on this project for over 8 months.

 

I checked and tightened up all of my skids (RCI engine and trans, Victory diff). The fronts were all tight yet, but the diff I got tightened down a good deal more than before. Took it for a drive and the ringing sound I was having before went away, but now I have what sounds to be some sort of rubbing/grinding sound. I hear it at all speeds, almost sounds like something is rubbing against a rotor, but I can't exactly tell what side or if it's front/rear...

I jacked the truck up on the engine skid plate in front and chocked the rear wheels, I didn't touch anything on the wheels. Both fronts were off the ground when I checked the skids (except the rear diff skid I tightened with the truck on it's own weight, before all else). Would tightening the rear diff skid deform the rear housing enough to cause rubbing? I ran out of time tonight to investigate further, but the only option I see right now is to lift the rear up in neutral and spin the wheels to see if I it's coming from the front or back.

 

Installed new tailgate letters from my Secret Santa.

 

Installed some white mirror caps a couple weeks ago that I bought from another member.

 

Picked up a Four Wheel Camper

 

AJT vent rings installed.

 

They should be standard equipment for sure. My 2017 came with them, I guess dealer installed.

Looks good. As to why it doesn't come stock, because toyota is ridiculous and wants us to buy a bunch of aftermarket parts from them that they should have added in the first place. You're telling me my 50K plus truck shouldn't come with bed lights and an auto-locking tailgate????

 

How's it sound compared to stock in real life? Mine is shipping this Friday. Can't wait to get it on.

 

I installed mine Friday, took about 1.5 hours. Never had an automotive project go so smoothly. I was trying to be sneaky about it, so I installed it at work. I wanted to see how long it would take for the wife to notice. The next morning, as soon as I cranked it, she knew it right away.

 

Got newly painted grill installed. Before and after.

 

Are the headlights different too?

Yes, updated to the black TRD PRO LED lights last month.

 

Huge improvement over the stock halogens? I'm hoping to get a set of the 2018 Platinum LED headlights myself soon.

 

Definitely a huge improvement over halogens, you will be happy when you make the swap.

 

Installed AMP Bedstep. This will probably be one of the more useful mods.

I really wanna do that too bad the 2020 is so damn expensive with the smart lock.

 

Got my trd skid plate powder coated matte black. Removed the red trd decals it came with and added @TUFSKINZ Tacoma 2016+ matte red trd inserts. They were nice enough to send me over a set as a guinea pig. Lol. Very happy with the install and think it looks great with the MGM truck color. Plus those red letters and sway bar really pop against the black. Also got around to throwing my tactilian flags on.

 

Added the AJT Cup Holder / Shifter Trim Rings

 

I did this twice. I missed the part where the auxbeam writing on the drivers side must point to the passenger side. The passenger side auxbeam writing points to the drivers side. Check function before you reinstall the headlights. Also you remove the plastic 3 prong adapter. Install that first, then the rubber cup fits nicely. Better directions are needed.
I hope this will help. These are a big improvement over my 3 year old halogen lights.

 

Installed RCI engine skid plate and threw OEM skid plate in recycle bin.

 

I believe the Gulf States Toyota’s install them once they are received. There is a Toyota part number for them which I thought is the same for Tacoma’s, but I’ve never seen a truck come out of the factory with the bed lights.
