I have rarely found a squeak to be caused by the actual spring unless the spring was rubbing against something else.

Just to give you a specific example. I'm the 2nd owner of my Tundra. The original owner gave it a typical Yuppie Truck life. Commuted over an hour down the highway to work & another hour home every M-F. He was very rigorous about having the services done to keep the truck reliable. Light home duty as a truck on weekends. No boat or RV to be towed around. His goal was to get 200k out of it & he did, then ordered a brand new Tundra. While in for one of it's last services Toyota told him he would be getting a new frame, so it had a new frame just before he went to trade it in at slightly over 200k. When his new Tundra was delayed a week he put an ad up for the truck to see if he could get more than the $1,000 the dealer was giving on trade. I ended up buying this truck. I've had to replace all the hard lines under the truck - power steering, gas, brakes, even had to repair the rear end pumpkin.

So even with highways miles daily, weekly car washes, "proper maintenance" - these trucks rot to sh*t.
Just have to decide if you want to deal with it & be sure you pay an accurate price.

FYI, My similar age & miles Tacoma also has a new frame - but none of the accessory rot, but the bed needed replaced unlike the Tundra's. So I guess similar to but different.

 

I used to live in Maine and I can assure you that every body in frame type vehicle that had 200k miles had some serious rust issues on the body and frame.

The liquid calcium brine they use in the highways destroys metal.

Best part of moving to the South, no more rust issues.

 

I both agree and disagree with this. With 318k miles, I need all new shit anyways! My truck was used as a work truck, having a trailer on it most of the time and both a tool box and gang box bolted in the back. EVERYTHING on it is shot. Hell, I have so many squeaks, rattles, clunks, and vibrations that any part i replace makes it better. But, mine is the exception.

The coastal hi clearance rear kit came in! Their site said 160lb base weight, that’s either Canadian pounds or that must include the swing out. I’m sure no progress will be made soon due to the holidays, maybe I will put the milwaukee impact to work and pull the oem chrome bumper.

Bringing this little beauty home today. 2006 SR5 Access Cab 4x4 TRDOR, 107k miles, spent all of its time in NM and CO. Man, I love trucks in the Southwest (gratuitous frame shot included...)

Nice find indeed. These late model 1st gen AC models sell QUICKLY. The private party seller only listed on Autotrader (no craigslist etc) with no phone number or contact information. Had to use Autotraders automated email to contact him, I did so within 15 minutes of the ad appearing late at night. By the next morning I was first in line of 13 people, and plopped down the cash for it on the spot of course. Great maintenance records as well. I waited 24 hours earlier this week on another truck before contacting the seller, it was already gone. Have to act fast when you see these rust-free ones for sale.

They do indeed. Nearly every truck over 10 years old has rust on the bed sides.

Has the timing belt been done?

 

Worked out the 4wd today. 1st is down my road which doesn't look too bad but it's about an inch of slush over top of mud from it pouring rain all night. 2nd is down the street from campus, couple inches there but it's still 36 degrees and slippery as all get out.

 

I miss (fresh) snow....

 

They certainly do. Cross rods on the bed, wheel arches, cab corners, hard lines, door bottoms, rockers. But the frame was fine on my F250 with 210k.
