Just trying to be sure. Im sound deadening my whole truck and the headliner is off right now so im thinking about putting my aftermarket microphone in its place.

That slotted area on the top?

@Roman might know? I thought the mic was in the headliner on the driver's side, but it isn't a stretch for it to be different from one model year to another.

Depends on the year. 2018 was there but the 2019 is in the headliner.

    Soon 2 Come.. .

I suggest keeping the OEM mic. My aftermarket sucks. Never had issues with the OEM

I second using the OEM mic. I tried the same install with not so good results.

Does it suck because the mic isnt actually fully exposed? The mic has ridges along the side, and im not sure if those are used to pick up sound.

ive always used pioneer decks with theyre included mic, but the mic was always on the steering column. It worked great there but im unsure how it will turn out in the location

I have an aftermarket and clipped it on the visor, I think it works better out in the open

My factory mic was really good. I have tried different locations for my kenwood mic including the OEM location and it just isn't even half as good

Is there a harness that allow you to hook up the factory mic to and aftermarket (pioneer) deck.

My Pioneer mic works fine there. You can't use the OEM mic with aftermarket stereos, though. Something something different voltage specs or something along those lines.

It was passable for me - I've never had a great sounding handsfree experience in any vehicle, so my main tests have involved my wife being able to hear me and not having complaints on a few conference calls I've taken.

I did a quick search and the OEM mic is amplified, which I think was powered from the factory head unit. Someone hooked it up by repinning or splicing one of the harnesses with the mic wires but got a very quiet result.

    Soon 2 Come.. .

My aftermarket is clipped close to the visor. It sucks based on feedback from the people I talk to on the phone. Wife noticed the difference immediately. I had my audio techs hook the oem back up to my alpine and it's back to oem crystal clear standards

I wonder how they did it. I may just take a look at the OEM mic and see how its wired. Mine sucks since I changed it.
