04 rear window stuck down.

Well, the rear window is stuck down and I believe I check the correct fuses, But still nothing. I used the truck earlier in the day and then mowing leaves I saw the window down. I don't remember putting it down, but it is.

Any other suggestions as what to look at or do?

 

First things first turn your truck key to the one position (but don't start it). Then try to put the window up. If you hear a click, but the window doesn't move, then your or rear window regulator motor has gone bad (or is going bad). If you don't hear a click, it's probably not getting power, so keep troubleshooting power issues to the motor. If you hear the click to try and get it back up you can fold the rear seats down and take the plastic cover off the back wall that covers the rear window (this is the biggest pain of the whole project but not that hard). Once it's off, find the window regulator motor and give it a light/med tap with a small hammer and then try to put the window up again. Hopefully it works for you. If it does, leave it up and order a new rear window regulator (it comes with the motor, which you can't buy separately). If it doesn't go up, then first tape some clear plastic sheeting over the window then order a new regulator.... The back window regulator is not hard to put in, but having a second set of hands will make it 10 times easier.

If you are feeling thrifty you could try greeting the motor fixed or replacing it with one of the side motors...

 

There's also a switch that controls the halfway stop, possible it has gone bad and cut power. On the left side about in the middle, unplugging it will restore power if that's the issue.

 

You can always remove the switch from the opposite door and install, to tell if it’s the switch or another issue. When my rear passenger switch went bad, neither my master switch or the door switch worked, until I replaced the door switch. it randomly rolled itself down too, in the rain....

 

I think he's talking about the rear cab window not the rear door window.

I have always been afraid mine won't go back up. I use it and my sunroof almost daily. 1st gens rock!

 

I've learnt a lot coming here....exercise my sunroof more than once a year, rear window more than twice and my 4x4 more than once every 10 years

 

I have to say I was skeptical shit the rear window but it's super nice to tilt the sunroof and drop the rear window an inch or so. Really nice on those warm but not hot days.

 

I am glad I had a tarp, it's raining today. I hope yours doesn't get stuck down. Going to try and at least get it back up and closed here soon.

 

Either I am checking my switch for the window wrong, or there is no power from Fuse to the switch. And that is odd to me. I could very well being checking it wrong. How the heck should I be checking the power to the switch?

 

D/c the wires and check for continuity.

Well. I am a complete dumbarse... And I don't mind laughing at myself, life is yo short not to laugh. So I took apart everything, couldn't find the issue. And it was the very first thing I should have checked and never even thought of. In all my years of modding all my toys, I have never done something this dumb. I HAD THE WINDOW LOCK ON!!!! wholly crap, I get the Darwin award right?

 

At least you were man enough to come here and admit it...

Every couple years, I have the same ‘oh crap’ moment when my pass side window won’t operate to only remember to check the lock which accidentally was pushed on. Glad you figured it out.

 

I can beat this. Earlier this year I decided to restore my headlights with one of those kits where you use various sandpaper grits. Well, I couldn't do the top part of the lens very well because it butts up against the bug deflector on my hood. So that part of the lens came out looking rough. It wasn't until I finished that I realized all I had to do was raise my hood.....

Talk about feeling stupid. I do shit like that 4-5 times per year.

Hell, I forgot to put the oil cap back on after an oil change in a car that had the cap straight on the valve cover. It was a mess.

 

I did that on my wife’s car. She went on a trip and when she came back I popped the hood and noticed oil speckled all over everything. And the cap still sitting right there.

I never fessed up. Just told her I was cleaning things up.

 

About 22 years ago when I worked at a grocery store, many times people‘s car wouldn’t start when they came back out. I couldn’t tell you how many times people just forgot to put the car in park. Obviously the car would start right up after that. It became the first thing I would say to anyone when their car wouldn’t start. Is it in park? lmao!

 

Oh s**t, that would be a mess.
