Reel Tree vs Fake Tree or No Tree

No tree at this house. However, sometimes I get a little crazy and do the Charlie Brown thing with a branch from the fence row. Silver Maple makes a pretty good Christmas twig.

Mine are usually free but bought one this year. Properly cared for, mine are still good to go up to New Years. Green enough to get mulched. When buying a tree make sure it's fresh cut. Easy to tell because needles won't drop off like flies. Been using live trees in my family without a fire since I was a kid and I'm about ready to turn 64.

 

yep I get it. We've gone out and cut our own, taken care of them like a national dog show contestant and still have dead ones before christmas so I gave up. Not a lot of fires from christmas trees but the ones that are started because of them seem to never end well. Just one more thing I don't need to worry about.

 

Yeah. Another big problem was the tree lighting back in the day. Those old water style lights looked cool while they bubbled but one short......not good. LEDs a lot safer. Crappy power cords not too good either

 

We won’t go cut our tree for another 2 weeks, and it’s down just after new-years, well-watered the whole time. That’s long enough for me, any more want for a green tree and I’ll go outdoors.

 

Just went to a local cut your own tree farm this morning and got a really nice tree for $50. Got home just as the snow was starting.

As others have said, you can't beat the smell of a real tree. My kids spent the snowy afternoon decorating the tree.

Won’t get the tree till the 14th, but it will be real, always go to a tree farm, and they are a renewable resource.

 

Fake

 

Fake. I bought a new one on New Year’s Day. It has been sitting in the garage all year since it was too big to fit in the attic. Now I need more ornaments and ladder to finish decorating it.

 

We have 40 acres of real ones out back and still don't do a tree. Lot's of decorating and lights strung up just no tree.

Always have had a real tree. Used to have a big one when the boys were little. Then it seems, over the years, as they grew up, the tree got smaller. Went from 7-8' down to 3-4' set on a small round table. Much easier to maneuver, decorate, and get rid of!

 

Real. No place to store a fake tree for 11 months.

 

...but cleaning up after and watering a Xmas tree for 2 or 3 weeks for some is soooo hard...........requires only this and this ..... not rocket science......

 

Fake. Lights are pre-strung. Tree can go up in five minutes (my job) then wife and kids can decorate (how ever long they want to spend on it). LOL, actually we all do it together as a family. We just finished this about 15 minutes ago.

 

In Fl real trees are pretty much dry by the time they even get here. Now we have 2 of the Balsam Hill trees.

 

Orygun to FL is a long way. Trees are pretty much toast...

 

My landlord/friend's are about 30 minutes out. Driving back from spending a week in Medford, Orygun. Maybe they brought a semi dead Douglas fir tree. They switched to imitation trees after I moved out several years ago. I always got them decent Colorado spruces for free...oh well...heh..heh..

 

Lots of tree farms here in Oregon. We always go cut our own down right after Thanksgiving and they always last until New Years when we take it down. Our garbage service picks up the whole tree for free, so disposal is easy as well.

 

Real. Always. Locally harvested. Fake trees are an unholy abomination.

 

Real. Can’t replace the smell of a real tree. Have always cut them as a Fam as well.
Today on the way back from the Oregon coast picked up nearly a 9ft’er. Went Doug Fir for the first time ever. We usually always do Nobels, but we spotted a farm with some good looking trees.





And ever since we moved to our property, we’ve done an annual Christmas tree bonfire. We take all the Christmas wrap, cardboard, and the tree - and have a nice big fire out back.Removal couldn’t be much easier
I stop watering a week before Christmas, and usually after Christmas it lights right up.

 

I prefer real trees just because of that fresh christmas tree smell.

The smell is something I never thought about. I live in the middle of thousands upon thousands of fir and pine trees so I probably stopped noticing the smell 40 years ago.

The burning of the old tree is a tradition here as well. Usually happens July 4th once its all dried out.

 

Our tree is as fake as Dolly Parton's boobs.

 

This is a really excellent point.

The family bonding aspect of going to a tree farm, picking out the perfect tree, cutting it and bringing it home as a family is priceless. In this day and age where everyone is so busy all the time, this is a great opportunity to take a time out and have a relaxing and fun day with the family. My kids love it and look forward to it every year. I did too when I was a kid.

The tree farm owners are usually really nice and friendly too and often have cookies and cider for the kids. Just a great, fun family experience.
