06 DC 4wd tire / rim question!

going to get new rims and tires and trying to decide between sticking w 17” or going down to 16” for better air down traction in SoCal sand

265/75/16
And
265/70/17

anyone have advice? just bought the truck, 90k on the clock and in mint condition... looked for a year so I’m stoked!

 

there's only 1/2" difference in sidewall height between the two tire sizes. I don't think it'll make a difference. I'll just go with the original 17" rims.

 

Stick with 17, plenty of options and less chance of brake caliper clearance issues. Plus the 17 inch rims make the double cabs look better.

 

Maybe things are different on the left coast, but here in the Mid Atlantic you want a wide tire aired down to allow the truck to float on soft sand of the Outer Banks of NC, and a narrow tire to cut through and compact the snow so the tread sipes can bite when going skiing in VT.



Plus what revtune said, I thought the 05-06 had brake upgrades that require the 17" wheel.

 

I have been a long time 16" guy, but with the newly available options for tires on 17" I'll be switching at some point.

The brake caliper doesn't necessarily mean you can't run 16". I have the upgrade and 16" wheels. It depends on the inside shape of the wheel.
