OEM wheel vs aftermarket measurement

If an oem 16X7 rim has 12mm positeve offset with 4.5 backspace, and an aftermarket 16X8 rim has a 0mm offset and a 4.5 backspace, whats the distance the aftermarket wheel will extend further outward from the fender compartment compared than the oem wheel...12mm?

 

Generally speaking. The smaller the offset number gets (12,0,-12,-24,-44), the further the wheel is going to be pushed away from the hub.

Forget offset. It’s a garbage measurement.


Backspace is perfect to use. If both wheels have the same backspacing, then the entire 1 inch extra width will be on the outside edge of the wheel

 

they're both important for overall wheel/tire measurements. if you are comparing different width wheels then just backspace doesnt help

 

They are two different measurements of the same thing. Backspacing is just easier to picture IMO. No matter what wheel I’m looking at, if i know the backspacing, then I’ll be able to instantly know how it will fit on the hub. Backspacing is also the same regardless of wheel width

 

but fender poke will be different so backspacing doesn't help then. That's what I'm trying to get at.

 

All I see is replacing a 12mm positive offset rim with a 0 offset rim while both have same backspace, the o offset wheel will stick out toward the fenders edge by 12mm or 1/2".

Thinking between Toyota wheel PT904-35070 vs Method wheel MR301.
I can get Toyota wheels @ $147 each, or Methods for $20 more each.

The oe wheel is only a +12?

I thought they were closer to 5.5 inches of backspacing

 

I imagine the Toyota 16" wheel backspacing changes. I thought I had the correct backspacing for my stock rims copied, but I don't and thereby could or am wrong about 4.5 backspacing for my stock wheels.
I've just read from FJ Cruiser Forums that the Toyota wheel PT904-35070 is not 12mm but is 15mm offset with 4.85 backspacing.
