What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

That's my dilemma with the front suspension. Where do I stop replacing and do I need to do it all at once since I'm in there? It's why I've accumulated so many parts under my kitchen table...

 

Kitchen table? I didnt have a kitchen table when I stocked up parts, but if you kicked my ottoman you'd break a toe.
I had lots of parts under the kitchen sink too.

 

I honestly don't think you should overdo it on the coilovers. I think you would be just as happy with the 5100's as you would anything else. The ICON's are nice, but they aren't $1,300 nice. My truck still kinda rides like shit. Better than the Monroe's for sure, but still rides like a 20 year old truck.

I'll be honest that around town, I would much rather drive my wife's Rav4. There, I said it...

 

I usually run new thicker wires from the factory connector in to the door. And use the unused pins. Cleaner and easier to just unplug when it’s time to sell

 

And that dishwasher has good storage space as well...

 

Currently I use rafters.

 

This is why I paid $3500 parts and labor. Took them 2 days. I dread just thinking about what you are going into. Hoot!

 

it was raining pretty hard today, but i got a couple of shots of the Tuna in my school's parking garage tonight.

 

The 5100 all around are super nice around town. I’m loving them. Next round I may do new 5100 in the rear but 6120 up front. A great value.

 

I thought about the 6120s. But if I’m going that far I’ll just get icons/kings. Then I can revalve them to drive now I really want

 

If I had to.do it again I'd go OME for the front. I've ridden in a 2nd gen taco with OME and one with Kings. OME was smooth AF off-road and quiet. Kings were squeeky but smooth. Billy's are stiff. Toytecs are somewhere between Billy's and OME I think

Today I drove the dang thing.

I've been overseas for a couple weeks with no chance to drive and then I got sick with some third world western african disease and have been in bed for a while so just getting out and driving around felt like an accomplishment.

And a joy with the new U joints. Smooth as silk even with all those miles, even in 4WD at 80mph.

 

Got to drive it after my weekend work. Trans is slipping, something made a metal on metal squeal then fixed itself, then it died at a light after getting on the highway. Good times. Put more tranny juice in; it was low. Then I ordered this:

I’ve never thought of Bilsteins as being stiff. I love my 6112/5160 setup.

 

Go get you some seafoam deep creep. It was night and day from using PB Blaster. Days of PB Blaster on several suspension and steering parts did nothing. Went and bought some seafoam deep creep and everything was listening up and coming off with in minutes of a single application.

 

I've never experienced 6112s. But 5100s in my Tacomas were stiff. What do you have yours set to? I almost went with 6112s instead of toytec boss but they didn't recommend using the 6112s for more than 1 inch lift on the access cabs and single cabs. I needed closer to 3 inches.

I will admit that my wife's ml350 rides better than my truck, but not by much. Anytime we hit a decent sized road bump my truck is always smoother. My wife prefers when we take her car while my son and I prefer we take the truck. He just likes the exhaust noise and I just like being able to not slow down for railroad tracks and such. Plus it's kinda funny when guys driving brand new Tacomas or tundras with lifts and every bolt on known to man check out my truck. Not that a $60k Toyota isn't impressive or anything but for the money I'd buy something else.

Yeah my Billy Bobs are stiff. Stiff yet forgiving. Smooth on highway and street. Awesome on curves/turns and dippy do’s.

Rumble board off road and yer teef will fall out.

Tow/Haul is very nice, as well.

 

Today is wash and wax day on both vehicles. Depending on atmospheric conditions, may be able to get the exterior trim/bumpers sprayed with the Rustoleum Bed Liner. If not, then tomorrow it is.

Handle cup glue repairs seem ok after sitting overnight. Might need to order new on the drivers side.

Looking forward to the small interior trim color changes.

I considered the OME as it's highly recommended on the 100 series land cruisers so when I saw an OME kit for the Tundra my plan was to go that route but after reading more it appears the OME Tundra setup is just the Tacoma setup but it fits the Tundra... The springs are 590lb springs where I've read most recommend 700lb springs when using a winch/bumper setup which is my plan but if there's something I'm lacking or another spring setup that could be used, I'm all ears. Little disappointing hearing the Icon feedback as they are the setup I plan to use. I don't think poorly on the 5100 setups but want something a little more lift than the 5100s recommend for our trucks. The 6120s have less travel from my understanding than even the 5100s so it seemed like the Icons extended travel with 700lb springs fit the bill best. They HAVE to be better than the KYB shocks and stock springs with spacer I currently have!

For what I did today, I'm window shopping while on vacation during my downtime. Not sure what I'm going to buy when I get back just yet but I have about 4 ($500-$1200) items on the list. Have to remove all the Christmas money from my spending money before I end up being Scrooge this year.

 

Is the other car a carolla? I keep seeing you talk about big gurlll and carollas.

 

it would indeed be a bed rack i just built it and got it bolted on a couple weeks ago. i haven't added anything to it yet. im thinking about an axe, shovel, some traction boards. what else would you recommend?
