Access points from outside the cab to the inside

Where are all the access points to get wires from outside the cab to the inside? I know there is one (maybe two) under the each side the front floor boards but are there any more? I am planning on putting an inverter under the drivers side seat and need to run some pretty thick cable from the battery to the inside the cab. I also want to possibly install a light bar which will require wires going to the inside of the cab.

Are there any access points along the fire wall?

 

There's a grommet on the firewall that the main wiring harness passes through in the driver's side at the front of the kick panel. There is enough room for a 4 ga cable for sure, typically used for installing amps and such.

 

There's a grommet on each side of the firewall. There are 4 or 5 small grommets each side (inboard side of rocker) near where the OEM steps bolt up. There are a couple more beneath and aft of the front seats. There may be a couple more at the back of the cab between cab and bed.

 

Might want to consider running a small fuse box while your at it. That way you can run many interior accessories down the road without running more hot wires. That's my plan eventually. I was actually planning a fuse block and a relay block under my center console if I can get it to fit. My plan was to just use a cheaper amp wiring kit to power it. I was budgeting around $50-60 total for all the expansion space of interior 12v I can think of.

Do you think the waterproof version is needed inside the cab of a vehicle?

 

No, but it does allow for a more secure mounting IMO. The one you posted I have now for my 6 gang switch and I feel at some point it will break those 2 side mounting brackets. I was searching for a while to find this specific one, just thought I would put it out there so other can see. I'm going to do a similar setup you are now, I need some constant hot wire to power a few things when the truck is off and some active by the ACC/ON positions.

 

Excellent point! I ended ordering this one here because I plan on mounting it on the inside of the drivers fender. It also is waterproof and has a post for both positive and negative cables instead of having to ground each line.

This will make it alot easier if/when I decided to get my light bar on the front and cube lights on the rear bumper.

 

I found a small grommeted opening behind the battery on the passenger side of the engine compartment. It is located to the left and above a larger rubber boot that has a wiring harness running into the cab. What I am asking is this: I have tried to locate the point inside the cab where I can access this small opening, but am unable to actually find it. It appears to be higher than the one I use on the driver's side of the engine compartment. Has anyone used the one behind the battery and if so, might you be able to tell me how I find its access point inside the cab. I do not want to just push something through the opening that might interfere with any of the other wiring located inside that part of the dashboard. Thanks for any help.
