I am going to go against the grain and say buy accommodations for comfort, repair worn parts, and change old fluids as your first upgrades.

I try not to do any upgrades until I feel out the normal state of the vehicle so if a mod causes it to operate a problem, I can pinpoint where to start.

I’ve also been in a situation where I spent a ton on exhaust and struts/shocks, only to immediately find out I needed ball joints and inner tie rod ends after I was broke.

Upgrading comfort pieces on the interior is fairly cheap and a good way to get by when the mod bug bites while waiting for any gremlins to show their head.
