    Hello,

I noticed that my engine fan had a rapping/clunking noise when it engaged the other day. It's a consistent tick-tick-tick sound when it's spinning.
What's this indicative of? Bad clutch?
Sounds like a bad bearing to me but I'm not familiar with these motors just yet to know exactly what may be going on.

If anyone can point me in the right direction as to what maybe the culprit I'll begin investigating parts and plan a fix.

    Thank you

Have you tried visually inspecting the blade with the engine off, hand turning it? Sometimes debris can be caught up in the fan or garbage in the shroud. Can you duplicate the sound while hand turning?

Thanks for the reply. I spun it by hand yesterday to check just that and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I’m unfamiliar with how the fan clutch works however (assuming like an AC compressor) so o basically just rotated it slowly through 360 degrees. No clunks, debris, tight spots, wobble that I could feel, etc.
Is there anything in particular I should be looking for when investigating the fan clutch for proper functionality?

    Any guidance is greatly appreciated!

If you do an internet search on “how to test a fan clutch,” you’ll get a variety of suggestions and techniques. I couldn’t find a specific one for the 5.7 but the concept should be the same. I bought my Tundra but haven’t picked it up yet. Once I do, I’ll look into it more and report back.
