So my 08 cm limited has the factory remote start that works all the way out to 15 ft away and kills when I unlock the doors so I asked for a quote from my local audio shop on installing a new system like viper or compustar with more range and the ability to get in without killing the truck and was told that if it came like that, it can’t be bypassed. Is this true?

I'm sure they can rip out all remnants of the old system and start clean. They probably just don't want to be liable for doing it.

The fortin evo-1 systems don't kill the ignition upon opening the doors. So it can be done. Might just be a limitation of the system you have installed.

I haven't had anything installed though, this is a factory remote start using the factory keyfob.

I was merely answering your last question "was told that if it came like that, it can’t be bypassed. Is this true?" ... The fortin evo-1 system still stays on when you open the door. Your situation is by design of the system that is installed.

Many with factory remote start have upgraded to a Viper system. Check here for a qualified dealer near you. https://www.viper.com/wheretobuy/ Your local audio shop may not have the expertise needed.

I seriously dont think they are correct when telling you "it cant be bypassed"

My SIL has a 2015 4runner that had a factory remote start and now she has the same compustar I have and it works like its supposed to.
Dont think the 4runner would that much diff from the Tundra in this situation

Take my answer with a grain of salt though and keep researching. Might be a good question for @james@tech12volts

The old system can be removed and a viper or other can be installed in its place. This shop just doesn't want your money.

I think you’re right, I contacted another shop that seemed more knowledgeable and they said it can be done I just need an extra key for the bypass.
