I poked around and found lots of threads with similar problems but no one with exactly what I am seeing in my truck.

    2007 ... ~130,000 miles

Every once in awhile this happens. Occurring more and more frequently. I get in the truck and turn the key it turns over and fires. RPM does its normal rev but then instead of settling back to idle it just dies. The first time this occurred I actually lifted the steering column so I could get a better view of dash alerts and it fired right up. The next time this happened I actually just tried lifting the steering column and again it fixed the issue. If I don't lift the steering column it will continue to do this over and over. Fire, rev, die. Move steering column ... starts right up.

Any ideas? I really don't want to take it to the dealer since they are 45 min away. Local guy doesn't have a clue.

Its sort of become a manageable issue but given the frequency is increasing I'm worried there is something failing and one day the steering column trick isn't going to work.

I think I would start tearing the plastic off around the steering column. Check for any abrasions on the wires. After that my next guess would be clock spring.
