Looking at all the 5100's posts on here, it looks like everyone re-uses the stock spring and just replaces the shocks. Is there a reason why the spring isn't also getting replaced? Do shocks deteriorate much faster than the springs? Am hoping for a suspension upgrade soon that won't break the bank and don't want to install 5100's only to have to replace the spring 2 years down the road. A cheaper complete coilover option is also on the table with Black Friday sales coming soon......

It’s just the way the 5100 is designed. It’s designed for a cheap 2” lift by providing a strut where you can choose your ride height and just re-use your old coils.... some people install the shocks/coilovers for improved ride, but usually most of us are searching for some lift and the coils on the truck are just fine. Looks like you have a 2015, you definitely won’t need to replace the coils in two years. Plenty of gen 1 folks still rolling on original coils

All too many people here are happy to help if you let us know what your spend budget is and your intended use of the vehicle. We love spending other people’s money the right way!

As you mentioned, Black Friday is looming! I myself like digging up deals on used premium components. I tried the Bilstein 5100s and they just weren’t for me. I am actually selling a set that is brand new rears and fronts have 500 miles if your interested, depending on where your located as shipping has destroyed most deals I have tried to close.

    Cheers!

Thanks for the insight! Why did you decide to swap out your 5100s? I would be interested but I think the shipping may not make it worth it for either of us. I’m outside Philly. Seems like 90% of this forum is in CA. You guys get all the best steals in the classifieds!
