Bilstein 5100s, TRD RSB, TRD Wheels
    2016 SR5 everything stock.

The first time I test drove a Tundra, it was a TRD. Ended up buying the standard SR5 in order to save some $ and because I likely won't be off-road much.

I like the way my truck handles and it is a smooth ride.
However, the TRD ride was on another level of smooth. Bumps in the road were seldom noticed on that test drive.

Flash forward 40,000 miles on the SR5.
    • Likely going to add the TRD rear sway.
    • What other changes would give me that extra smooth/soft ride I got a glimpse of a few years back?
    • Is adding the front sway an absolute necessity for that comfortable ride I'm looking for?
    • Shocks - what is the recommended mileage to replace OEM shocks? In another thread, it seems I still have a ways to go from 40,000 miles. Are the Bilstein 5100 or 6112(?) the best ones to go with?
    • Truck is not currently lifted and likely not planning on it in the near future. Only thing would be that I might consider basic leveling.
I have been studying different threads on all of this, but just wanted to find some conclusive answers all in one place. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Rear sway bar - Yes, either Hellwig or TRD - both are good.
The factory front sway bar is fine.
Smoothest ride will be with Michelin LTX tires and stock shocks, maybe Bilstein 4600 series shocks.
Big heavy tires / off road tires typically ride like shit, avoid them.

Oe shocks are definitely done at 40k miles. Replacing those and adding rear sway will make it feel like a new truck

What Rex said AND the TRD has different shocks which is that difference you feel compared to SR5. I got the TRD for the reasons you describe, even though I did not expect to go off-road. TRD didn’t come with a rear sway bar, so that’s not responsible for the differences you remember.

They lose effectiveness slow enough that most don't notice the difference, but original black shocks are typically good for 40 or 50 thousand miles.

Exactly! When you replace them you realize the difference

Thanks everyone for your responses. As an update, I have the rear sway bar installed and ready to add some new shocks.

In reading other threads, it appears that the Bilstein 4600s are an economical, quality solution for my stock, non-offroad, daily driver. In reading reviews, it appears they are good, but a little stiff.

My goal: Smooth, firm, comfortable ride, no lift. Mostly everything stock SR5.
    Would you recommend:
    • Bilstein 4600
    • TRD Shocks - ptr1334070/ptr13-34071
    • Other
    Thanks!
