So they can sell him a new one.

Dealers don’t want the old ones back, they want new vehicles off the lot.

Find yourself a friend that is a dealer and get figures from them on how much a dealership pays for any vehicle of your interest (options you want, package wanted, etc.). Once you have that number then you should pay no more than $500 over that. They will also give you a top dollar price on your trade in. This is what I did and when I texted the dealership (the salesman would text me a lot and if I had a question it was answered almost immediately) and told them what I was prepared to pay and if they do not accept then I am going to another dealer. Within 45 minutes I had a text message telling me my truck was just detailed and they would like to know when I can come pick it up. While filling out the paperwork they told me that I obviously know someone that works for Toyota

Your debt won’t “disappear”. They’ll give you wholesale. If that value is less than what you owe, which it probably will be, that number is your negative equity. They take that number and add it to the agreed selling price of the new truck. Now if what you owe is less than than the trade in offer that’s your equity. It will be subtracted from the final agreed price.

To get an idea of what it’s worth search for used Tundras like yours in your area. Get an average of the selling price and subtract $8k-10k from that average. That’ll give you an idea of what they’ll offer you on trade. The money on cars is in preowned...always!!!

Just looking at what you wrote they won’t do that deal. There’s no money there for them...only you! But, hey you can propose the offer and see what their counter offer is. Like someone has said those letters are BS! Their main purpose is to get you on the lot!

Just briefly looking at 2013’s for sale, don’t trade it sell it yourself! Price it aggressively and it’ll sell in days or a few weeks. The market for preowned Tundras, especially 4x4’s is strong!!! Good luck!!!!

It's a marketing tactic to sell new vehicles. I have been getting them since I bought my 13 in 13.

Tell them you will take no less than $25k and see what they do, LOL. Act like your not even sure if you want a new one or another vehicle.
They do not know how much you owe, if you tell them that it will be their best offer if even close.

I still get letters, emails and phone calls for my 03. Tempted to play along and bring it in one day so they can see my cut pinch welds, no inner fenders, no windshield washer, spare that doesnt fit in the bed, "hasn't seen wax since 2009" paint job, banjo brake line conversion on rusty calipers and all else. Then ask which one you gonna gimmie?

By the way, love that pic.

Don't ever trust a dealer that claims to want something from you. The ONLY thing they want is your money.

After we got the first one years ago from Ford ...I told them to take me off their list .

Then they called and said we could get a new truck for sale payments. I explained we were 6 months from owning and would only do it if they could match. Obviously they couldn't. I told them to take me off the call list too

    That ended it.

All I have to say is it’s Maine... so you never know haha.
If you’ve lived there you know exactly what I’m talking about.

Couple buddies of mine bought 70+ acres of land from some guy in Freeport for 40k. Guy was selling because there wasn’t an “access” road to the load. Buddies contracted a company to come in and clear the land while making an access road at the same time. So, they wound up with: 70 acres of land, an access road to the land, and got paid 25k for the harvested wood. Not bad for 15k outta pocket.

capitalization on ignorance is very prominent in that state. I say drive over to the dealership and work a deal. Good luck!

Local dealership I was trying to get a 2019 pro from sent me an email saying 2020 was on it's way if I wanted to make an offer. I sent a picture of my pro and said nah I'm good. Got this for 3k cheaper than what you were offering. Didnt get a response. They still have their 2019 voodoo blue too
