    Hey all,

Currently throwing around the idea of upping my tires to 35" and pretty certain I'll have issues getting the spare under the bed.

What are you guys using for "in the bed" spare solutions? There's so many options and they vary so wildly in price, function and style. Some of them look badass, some of them hide the tire entirely, some of them take up the entire back window.

Anybody have any solid recommendations, and what made you choose that style/product?

    Thanks!

I use a couple of strong bungee cords to secure my spare in the bed, it is safely stored under my hard lockable tonneau cover.

My 37 spare is secured at the front of the bed with a large ratchet strap. Works great. I could mount it on my roof rack, but it would be a bitch to get it down. Not very practical.

    Thanks for the input guys.

Does it being mounted to the front of your bed get in the way of your view or anything?

You can tuck a 35" tire up underneath in the stock location. The two ears on the factory spare tire mount just need to be cut off. It will not work with Coach builder shackles if you have those.

If you don't mind asking, why do you need a tire just big enough to no longer fit the spare under the bed? I guess I don't see the advantage of one or two inches when that means taking up a good option of storage in the bed.

Reminds me of the top gear episode where jc commented on the raptor he was driving how the entire bed was there just to carry the spare.

Looking back at some of the others feedback, it looks like I should be able to fit 35" under the bed in the stock location.

But, mostly because I hate gas mileage & bed space, so I figured what better way to kill two birds with one stone than upgrade tire size and put my spare in the back. ;)

In all seriousness though, I am just slowly adding more things to help out when off-roading. In another 5 years when the company I work for is done paying for my truck and restricting my mods, I'll likely go to a larger tire than 35", end up doing a re-gear, and some other things. I just have to get to that point first, and I think 3.5"/1.5" lift on 35"s will look good in the meantime.

Everyone has different reasons. For one, my truck came with 20” Fuel Assault rims with 35x12.5x20 tires. I changed rims to Method Con 6 and am using the Fuels as my spares. The spare tire hanger won’t stay on the Fuels stable enough to be lifted into the spare space so it goes in the bed for now unless I decide to go with a hitch/bumper style spare carrier.
