If your not military then, you need to get a va license within 60 days of moving. Your vehicle also must be registered within 60. Could be anywhere from 120 to 300 depending on how long you register it. Your required to have you're vehicle inspected once a year. Tint is 50% for the front the back can be as dark as you want. Im from va beach.

Roanoke area here. You’ll also pay a personal property tax on your vehicles, boats, etc. I came from Michigan via Illinois and neither state had that at the time. VA registration fees are fairly reasonable (I think my 2019 Tundra tags were like $50 or so for a year). You’ll need to visit a DMV office initially but after that most basic stuff can be done online.

Well I’m coming on gov orders. Might get to slide a while with AZ registration for a bit. Damn it. Bringing a boat, 18’ open bow run about. Planning on doing “high 3” up there.
Wife has several yrs to go, so might be there longer.

I'm in Richmond. Everything mentioned above is spot on. And personal property tax blows. The only thing to add is that some of the registration, licensing stuff can be done at smaller "DMV Select" locations, which are much less busy than regular DMV locations. BUT, state title transfer has to be done at regular DMV locations.

Welcome to Virginia! Great place for boating!
