What with girl on girl and MGTOW, I thought this activity went the way of the dinosaur. I vaguely remember it. Something about who's on first, right? Or is it, the larger income earner on top? In today's tech world, do you have to sync your scheduling software beforehand?

Yes sir. The whole house is steal framed and there’s 2 of those I beams in the garage. 3 in the basement and 2 for the deck... we do shit overkill in this family

Whelp, I figured out what the whining noise was coming from under the hood. My brother and I popped off the serpentine belt and checked all the pulleys. None had any play or grinding feeling when turning by hand. We reinstalled the belt back on and fire her up. The groaning/whining sound is coming from the power steering pump. The pulley on it is fine so its something inside the pump. I placed my comically long headlight adjustment screwdriver on the pump right behind the belt while it was running and put the screwdriver up to my ear. Yep, its groaning/whining like crazy. Fluid level is good so I'm not sure if a flush will take care of it or if I should go ahead and replace it. Truck has 120K miles on it so its probably time to be replaced. Sigh......

 

pull the reservoir off and clean it out with brake clean from the bottom.. theres a screen that can get clogged up with shit.
at least i think these trucks have that

I'll admit this is one thing I really miss from my last truck. I really want to upgrade but that damn JBL factory stuff has me intimidated. Seems like every other person has a different story of what plugs or bypass they used. What head unit did you go with? This is another area where I'm in the dark from years of running stock stuff and enjoying it.

 

I blew out some PS boogers while doing a suck and fill at the reservoir WHILE the engine was running (not recommended or endorsed).

This was the about the 5th suck and fill performed in about 2 months time frame. For whatever reason, I had the engine on this time and the pump started screaming at me once fluid got low. I had the fresh bottle right there and filled it up as it was quicker than running to turn the key off.

Some bad mojo blew out and got caught in the screen which was clean prior BTW. Took 2 more suck and fills to clean it out. Still unsure of what the ‘booger debris’ is....

No problems prior other than occasional drop on the steering rack bellows. No problems since. Got lucky?

 

Hit 45k mi and replaced the timing belt, wpump, drive belts, seals, idler, tensioner, and put on some new rims over the weekend. The FJ rims definitely fill the wheel well nicely.

 

Fluid color looks good from here.

 

It certainly became a costly nightmare for me as I went thru 3 harnesses before o got the right one and when I ran the Uber long 3rd harness to the rear to bypass the amp, it grounded out somewhere behind the passenger kick panel and fried my touch screens amp. So I had to buy another touch screen and said fuck it and let the pros install it.

 

You only have 45k miles and you replaced.all that stuff?

 

I don’t have the JBL system so it was a bit easier. I used a Pioneer head unitnive had for a couple years. Removed it from my F150 when I sold it.

if I was buying a new one now, I’d be sure to get one that supports Apple CarPlay and Google.....whatever the google version is called.

The backup camera was a bit of a pain. Had to tap off the reverse switch. Then had a difficult time with the power. Couldn’t figure out the issue until I figured out the power tap
wasnt contacting the small gauge wires in the twilight.

 

The timing belt has to be replaced every 90k or every 9 years and you might as well do the water pump while you're in there. Being an 03 he was actually long overdue. Belts crack and dry rot with age so I would have replaced that serpentine belt also. I think you have to remove that to get to the timing belt anyways.

 

Are you the original owner? That is exceptionally clean for an 03. Love that color!

 

Timing belt/water pump was precautionary, figured I might as well hit the rest since I was down there. Was worried about that 17 year decay but honestly, everything still looked pretty solid. Worth it for the piece of mind.

 

How's the fluid look? Is it black? I would probably try flushing out all the fluid and replace it with some high quality synthetic ATF to see if that fixes the issue. ATF is cheap.

 

No, 2nd. Found it last year with 37k and knew I hit the jackpot!

 

Just dropped my 2004 off at the dealer for open heart....timing belt, water pump, stat, serpentine, pulleys and seals if needed, EFI maintenance, brake fluid flush and newest Takata airbag recall. Will be in waiting room at home for few days before I put her in Intensive care.

I used the toytec 3 leaf AAL and left the overload in and I got 2.5 of lift. I was at 21" from the center hub to the fender and now am at 23.5 (I also have a canopy on it). I'm pretty sure my leafs are worn out also so I'm surprised you didn't get more lift.

 

Maybe the toytec and wheelers progressive AALs are.heavoer duty than the icon one. I.know wheelers off road used to offer an HD version of their progressive AAL for just $10 more. It had 1mm thicker leafs. I had it on my 99 taco. Then when I went to buy one for my 03 taco the option was gone. I think they did away with the lesser one.and kept the HD one since they use the same AAL for the Tundra. I should ask em.

 

Fueled up today and noticed significant corrosion build up on the rim of the fill cap.

Definitely a high build. Took some emory cloth and sanded it off and got things back down to shiny flush. Check out the sanded off powder laying in the spill drain. That was half of it. Some of that rust was attached to my brand new OEM fuel cap!

The cap has better action when installing it now. A huge difference for something seemingly insignificant.

 

Finished off the tail gate with a second round of coats. Looks way better than the other day. Very happy with it. Hit the bumper plastic with another round of Rustoleum Bedliner. Keeping things simple with the small Toy emblem only. Tacked it with Fuze and supported with some blue tape till final set.

 

Did you debadge? Floss or did you just pop them off with a plastic trim tool? I’m scared the age of the truck won’t release the glue well

 

Used the gift card method.

Glue was gooey and rubbed off with a rag and Xylene (Goof Off same stuff). There was definitely shadow marks behind the emblems from being in the dark all these years. I may take off and reinstall the side door emblems as sludge seems to be trapped in the aging goo and leaving run trails on my nice finish.

I’ll give the card a try after it’s been sitting in the sun for a bit. I’m phantom grey pearl which is darker than yours but I’m sure it will still have sweet tan lines once I remove it.

 

@Professional Hand Model I'm not one to debadge my truck, but I wanted to say that your efforts came out very well - very clean and neat touch-up to the minor dings, scratches, and discoloration. Several questions...how did you go about cutting the metallic emblem, were you using spray cans or paint gun to apply the paint, and was it necessary to refinish the entire tailgate or just sections, blending into the surrounding area as you go?
