Been waiting as long as I could to make the switch to some better tires on my new truck for the winter. We live on a non county- maintained road that is very steep with a few switch-backs to get up to the house. I had Duratracs on my Tacoma and they did great so I just ordered another set in a 285/65/18 for the Tundra in a load range D. Anyone else run this same setup on stock TRD setup?

Lots of people run those tires. Wise choice.

I've got them on mine. Shop had difficulty getting them balanced the first time, just had to have them re-balanced yesterday. I have high expectations for them this winter.

How do these tires wear? Road noise?

Not sure which way I’m swinging on the tire department.

Dtracs, It’s the only tire I’ve ran for a decade here in colorado. They stay softer in freezing weather than others. Wear is decent, I never really run them to the bone, but easily get 40k. Minimal noise, less than my buddies ko2, but his are bigger so...
I bought my truck with brand new Michelin defender ltx or whatever and after 1 snow, said no effing way. Got Wranglers the next day.

They wore pretty well on my 01’ Tacoma I think I got about 35,000 out of them but depends on how you drive I guess. I commute some pretty curvy canyon roads in the mountains and I think that led to some feathering on the front tires but rotating them eventually evened them out. It also could have been that I had original shocks/suspension with over 290k! They would get me up our road with a foot of snow though which the ko’s on my 4Runner would not.

My parents had them on their 4runner and Tundra, once they wore down (probably to half tread or so) they were the loudest tire I've ever heard. Things just absolutely howled on pavement. Otherwise they seemed nice. That alone kind of turned me off from them though, plus it doesn't snow much where I live now.

I had some difficulty balancing my last duratracs as well and found that if the tire shop isn’t using a specific flange plate adapter for Toyota rims it can cause some issues. Might not be unique to duratracs in general but more to the wheels they are mounted on

DuraTracs..........Had them on my 09 Taco. Great all around tire. Tread compound a bit soft for heavy use in rocky terrain but did quite well in the snow/ice and on wet surfaces.

They do seem a bit softer than the ko’s I had on my 4runner but that is good for snow and ice in colder temps and essentially that is what I’m after. Was hoping the 285/65/18 load range “d” would last a little longer compared to the 265/75/16 load range “c” that was on my Tacoma.

My Duratracs got tested out in AK for 11 months. All kinds of terrain driving up there too. I prefer Cooper tires but would certainly consider DuraTracs again.

Has anyone else out there put this size tire on stock 3rd gen Tundra? 285/65/18.
Was a toss up for me between those and a 275/70/18 which are only available in a 10 ply load range “e” and have pretty significant weight gain and possible rubbing compared to the 285/65/18 load range “d” 5ply

I had ST MAXX in 295/75/18. Still have STT Pros in the same size. Considering Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT's.

Yep, same here. Sticking with the KOs or going to give the AT3 LTXs a shot.

After the second balance, the service guy said that Toyota wheels are usually more difficult to balance. That combined with the Duratracs meant that that they had to add a little more than an ounce to each wheel.
