It's a straight cut in the tailgate body. Any ideas how much this is going to cost to fix?

I don't have a picture right now but I'll post later.

    Here are the images.

@Timesp8 how much did it cost to get painted also is it very hard to remove the old shell and put the new one on?

This isn't my truck and I want to fix it since it was my stupidity that made this happen.

It wasn’t hard to swap everything. Don’t remember how much to paint but seems like a couple hundred maybe. Sorry, it was years ago.

What he showed you is just a complete tailgate minus all the moving parts. So you would get that shell and have it painted. Then switch over the handle, latches and anything else to the new one.

Ok is it pretty straightforward moving all the parts over? Or do I need any specific tools or anything?

Personally, I would check local junkyards. You would be surprised at what you find. Might even get lucky and match the color too. Just an idea. Good luck.

I haven’t done it myself but I’m pretty sure you’ll just need some torx bits and standard handtools. Probably I need to be careful removing tailgate cap. I have a different model than you but my bed rail caps had to be removed from underneath. That way you don’t snap the tabs off. I think you need to pinch them together to get it off. Also maybe some 3M tape to reinstall the emblems if he wants them. The body shop might even do it for you if they’re cool.

Another option is to just buy the shell and have a body shop paint and blend it for you since the truck is older.

Ah that is a good point. After talking to the neighbor they were thinking about getting the whole truck painted so I told them I could buy the Shell and then they could have the money towards painting it.

They may do that. They had the hood and roof paint peeling.
