All your bass are belong to us

When my dad had the truck, he rested his leg in that spot and kept his elbow on the door so much he wore it out.

After waiting since October 3rd, I finally got this response from ICON. I had to PM Adrian just to get any sort of response and this is what he sent back. I'll let you all judge how helpful this was.

    "Hello,
The add-a-leaf heights are determined using a stock empty truck. I apologize that the height was not what you would of liked on your vehicle. I suggest adding the over load to provide you additional lift. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions"

I want to point out the bed of my truck is nearly empty and my camper shell only weighs 150-200lbs. This response would only make sense if I had 800lbs in my bed. There is no way my fiberglass shell should prohibit me from gaining less than .5".

Bottom line, nearly everyone I spoke to said they didn't get anywhere near 1.5" of lift. I have nearly $2,000 worth of ICON products on my truck. If I ever build another truck I'm ordering Kings or something else.

Well, it was a busy couple of days..

    - Installed LBJs and Steering tie rod ends.

    - Installed a Pioneer AVH-211ex and a reverse camera.

    - Fog lights mod to be able to turn them on anytime with at least parking lights and using the OEM fog light switch.

    - Changed all the interior lights to White LEDs.

    - Installed a new 3rd brake lens and replaced the bulbs with White LEDs.

Pulling from memory here but I believe there are multiple methods. I think it gets pretty convoluted depending on options and DRL's so its very specific to each year model and AC or DC. I remember it being covered extremely well over on TS.

From the back of the switch: I cut the Red/ Yellow wire and connected the switch end of it with the Green/ Silver dots wire. The other side of the Red/ Yellow wire get isolated and don’t connect to anything.

Keep in your mind this worked on 00’ with no DRL or Lights Control Unit. You have an ‘06 which I believe it has a different method for it (from what I read at least)

Yeah but that's really not the point. They claim this will get you 1.5" WITHOUT the overload spring. That's bullshit. The whole point of this is to remove the overload which improves the factory ride. Also, remember I paid a shop to do this because I didn't want to invest in tools I will rarely use(like really tall jack stands). I would either have to go buy those tools or pay the shop all over again.

They should put in their description "this add-a-leaf can yield .5 to 1.5 inch of lift depending on vehicle specifics. Users may want to leave in overload spring for maximum lift". Instead they explicitly state the overload is not to be reused.

I was honestly more annoyed with their shitty customer service than anything. I shouldn't have to wait 21 days for a response. Especially a response of such low effort. /rant.

I get that. Customer service.is a big deal to me as well. Which is why I can't recommend enough how.much I like giving my money to wheelers off-road. They're a forum vendor and always helpful and if you ask they'll give you a discount. I haven't had any issues with them and I've run their progressive aal on all 3 of my toyotas.

Well, I mean it was a lot of fun until the problems started.

I traded it for a Ford Fairmont. The second worse car I ever owned.

Ok soooo. Last night I threw in some bilstien 5100 series in my truck on the 4th notch. The thing is so frikin bouncy I bout shat my self on the test drive.
Why does everyone swear by them? I honestly am going to pull them back out and put them on the first notch for zero lift and run my 2 inch spacers agian.

(BTW anyone wondering I went to 2 different stores and borrowed 2 different sets of strut compressors.
After realizing the first set was bending a ton we packed up a little and ripped my buddies car to town again.)

OKay, for real. Why is there a 3rd and 4th notch if you're not supposed to use it? why not save the machining costs and the confusion and NOT HAVE THE NOTCHES PEOPLE ARENT ALLOWED TO USE?!?!? I really don't get it.

I have no clue. I've never used 5100s on a tundra, just passing on what I've heard. Kinda like the 6112s can't go above the 2nd notch on access cabs and regular cabs but double cabs can go higher. Something to do with the geometry of the suspension and steering components and CV axles.

I get you're pissed but you also need to remember your springs are 17 years old, I don't think you would have got the advertised lift for any brand it AAL.

The long response time though is unexcusable.

That's a fair point. The issue is that I posted my situation on Instagram and 4-5 people either messaged me or commented saying they had the same results. @Rheywood456 was the only one who commented and said he got a solid 1.5". At this point, all 1st gens are 15-20 years old so it may not make sense to go the AAL route. Lesson learned.

I think a lot of this could be avoided if ICON would modify their instructions and their 1.5" guarantee.

I believe for our Access cabs the BillyBobs can only go to the second notch. BillyBob states this in their manuals. It pays to read the fine details. In my case, I set them on one notch up from the bottom. Firm and stiff, but I also have E-rated tires and two sway bars. I like them for the street/tow/haul. The little ‘off-roading’ on them required me having rear molar replacement.

Uh oh? A smell like Swisher Sweets with some side order of Musk Funk is coming from my exhaust. Engine fully heated at Operational Temp. Sitting at idle in Park. No exhaust steam or smoke visible. Outside temps 70°.

How long before she goes BOOM?

Can’t remember if I read concerning your rear cap, but did you try removing it? I thought about this the other week when you were asking about suggestions in getting some umph! back in the truck and weight reduction came to mind. Might knock out three birds with 2 stones.

Yeah. Same thoughts here. Coolant res level looking right where it normally reads. Temp gauge normal. No check engine light. Time will tell.

I did tow today so maybe that was a new factor.

You might be pissed but I'm actually a little relieved. I wanted to run the icon aal and I don't want any lift. The front is where it needs to be +/- 1" and it looks pretty level so I'm hoping I get exactly no lift. Then again I might be talking myself into a 3 link after the damn "holy grail first gen" thread. Only half joking... Damnit!

You can use it, but ride quality will suffer because of the sheer preload on the springs.
