Yeah, if you are going to do any paint correction, should always iron x and clay to make sure the surface is as clean as possible to keep from introducing now scratches or swirling

Longest lasting from my experience goes to Finish Kare Hi-Temp paste wax for North East winters. Close runner up is Collinite 476. If you want something really easy to use try Collinite 845 although it doesn't last as long as the two I mentioned, it will last a good 4-5 months in North East winters.

Took it to a local shop to get her shined up. Pretty impressed, definitely earned my business. 20191020_194643.jpg 20191020_162922.jpg

Did you ask or find out what they used for products and what steps they took? It definitely looks sharp, clean, and nice gloss. Nut with detailing, looks can be deceiving. I would definitely want to know what steps they took and what they used for each step.

Before I was into detailing, I had mobile detailer do my Tacoma many years ago. He used megs soap and clay, klass all in one polish/sealant then detailed the inside with Lexol stuff. He did a nice job overall.
3 years ago I was referred to a mobile detailer " just starting out who does great work". Well he didn't have any form of clay, he used good soap and did a decent full wash. Then told me he planned to use some kind of chem guys spray sealant followed by butter wax. He prices were high too. While he was working I called @southboundsteve :( and discussed a few things. I went out and told the kid he could stop, i paid him for the wash and gave him a tip and sent him on his way. That night I bought some Carpro stuff Steve recommended and have been at it DIY'ing everything

No I didn't get full details I know he did a decontamination wash and clay barred the truck. Did not polish it that'll be next month. He is well known in our area and I've been following him for a year or so watching reviews of his work and other detailers that go to him for help and products. I can get a full list of chemicals used and processes but.....lazy

Well it sure looks good. I'm just anal and OCD so I'd wanna know what's on there. Probably a wax or light spray sealant if he is planning to polish it in a couple weeks anyway.
You ultimately going to get ceramic?

Doubtful. I'm debating selling it to get a diesel. Was trying to find a guy to make it look new again and get ready for market. Will probably get it polished and call it a day.

Good idea for resale value. First impressions are everything and when someone see's yours vs the same truck that hasn't been nicely detailed, they will want yours every time. I know, well the way my brain works...if something looks clean and well cared for it give a buyer increased confidence that its well maintained both mechanically and cosmetically.

Were on the same page. Figured with my low miles and relatively stock truck, as long as it's as clean as it can be, it should sell fast

I know Collinite 845 is a runaway favorite for detailers, but I just haven’t ever really liked it. It’s perfectly good, but there’s other things I feel like I get better results with. I wonder how much climate effects some of these products? What works really great in NY, maybe not so much in Texas? I know environmental conditions cause durability to vary greatly, but I wonder how much it effects how well a product finishes? I’ve not tried the other two you mentioned.

One of the coolest things about detailing is that there are so many options that do a great job. These discussions would all be pretty short if there was just one perfect answer for everything.

    Looking good!

Curious what do you use on your rims? I have been using a Lucas spray wax with decent results. It's easy but I am sure there is something better out there.

Actually I just used the Meguiar's Ultimate wax a while back and just clean them as normal with the soap on the rest of the vehicle. Keeps them up well. I do like that Lucas spray wax tho. Used it before and it was nice.
    Thanks man!

Might give it a shot. Trying to find a new truck first before I invest time and money into the tundra

What wax/sealant are you using on this and how long ago did you do it? It looks like it's wearing off with the beads not as tightly bonded/held together. maybe it's just me. I noticed mine will bead like that when the wax is needing to be redone, or if it's dirty. Just curious man. Props to you for keeping a black vehicle up too. I did it before. It looks AMAZING when clean, but in south louisiana, that's only a total of about 32 hours a year. lol

At the moment it is Shine Supply Cherry Silica Wax. I only just applied it last week. It’s my first time using aside from a minimal try out I gave it earlier this year. I didn’t leave it on long back then, as I was blowing through a ton of stuff I was trying out. It was before I’d decided to really go with a wax.

Beads aren’t as tight as they are when I use a dedicated sealant, but I don’t think it’s bad at all. I certainly don’t think it’s failing already. This morning was the first time I’ve seen it wet. Being a “hybrid” product I’m thinking it just reacts a little differently from what I’m used to. It certainly leaves a very nice finish and gloss.

It was also the first time I used my DA to apply a wax, so I may not have perfectly even coverage.

I'm pretty blessed to have a garage for my truck to sit in and wax it in, so I know that helps me too.
