My 2000 SR5 has power mirrors, but not heated.

I see on Rock Auto I can get power/heated mirror glass for $29. But I can get the entire power/heated assembly for $37. Kinda a no-brainer for me.

I know the heating element just needs 12V, so that would be no problem to feed it through an aux switch. But in my past vehicles with heated mirrors, the heat would come on for a set duration, then turn off automatically. I could achieve this with a timed relay, but was wondering if there is an OEM timed switch or relay from Toyota that's plug-n-play?

On my ‘03 with factory original heated mirrors there’s just a dash button and it’s fully manual on and off.
Admittedly I have never used them, having just bought the truck this summer, so I don’t know if they eventually auto shut off, but based on the directions in the manual I don’t believe they do.
This might make adding them to your truck even easier though, since all you should need is a 12v source and an on/off button, perhaps even a factory one, there’s probably a blank where it goes on the dash (left of steering wheel).
You could get fancy though and add a timed relay like you mention.

my base model regular cab was prewired for the heated mirrors... you may have to add 2 wires to your door harness, you may not. The switch goes in one of the blanks next to the steering column on the driver side. there should be a unused plug upbehind there

add the relay and the switch and you should have functioning heated mirrors

According to the pics at Rock Auto, the plug at the mirror is different for heated vs non-heated. Was the heated plug present, but unused on your truck?
Is there a slot for the relay in the fusebox?

The plug is physically the same as non heated. Just 2 extra wires

I looked into this hard last spring. Had some good feedback from members on what is possible. In the end, the timer thing plug all the wiring headaches overruled the idea.
