Let me preface this by saying I am not very mechanically inclined AT ALL.

My front end is suddenly sitting much lower on side than the other.

Oh and there appears to be a hole I'm the shock??

    What is could cause this?

Looks like something hit it. I would get that replaced before driving it any more. No idea what would hit the shock right there honestly.

Yeah, you hit something. Don't know how you managed that but thats what it must be. I've seen ones that rusted so badly they blew out from the inside, but that looks clearly dented in.

The dented in part is what is perplexing.

It also appears your upper ball joints need some attention. Looks like they are losing grease.

Strange. Do you live in a bad, inner-city neighborhood? The kinetic energy it would take to dent that shock tube in such a concentrated area almost seems like a bullet impact. Mmm-hmmm, looks to be about 30 cal. :D

more than likely the shock housing is dented in a spot that is keeping the shock piston from fully extending. Your spring is probably under extra compression. be careful.

it may have been dented for a bit, then you hit a big dip or bottomed out hard enough to force the piston past the dent, not there isn't enough force to push it back to normal static sag.

You need new shocks, but like I said, be careful since that side will have way more stored energy in that spring if you decide to disassemble.

    Off-roading?

Shock bodies are really not as strong from what some may think.

Excellent reason to replace all shocks. Find a good shop for replacement. Like you I am not mechanically inclined. I put a lot of trust in a good mechanic. You will be ecstatic with a new and safe ride.

Could that explain why there is no sign of fluid leakage on the tube?

I wondered about a bullet also. I found one in my dads truck once, through and through the truck bed. No idea where it came from.

The bushings are worn too, looks like time for a front end rebuild.
