Does anyone know what this small recessed area on the instrument panel can be used for? I’m sure it has a purpose perhaps in other models, but I don’t have a clue. This is a picture from my 2006 DC.

I really want a center console like that. I can't wait to be done with the 65 projects that come first.

My console doesn't have any of that fanciness. But it does have a secret compartment

I have never bothered to calibrate the MPG on my Ultra Gauge to my 06 Tundra. I think the default setting is 9.9 MPG. Most vehicles you just plug in the Ultra Gauge in and reads the instant mileage and MPG correctly from the computer. Won't work like that on my 06 Tundra. You have to calculate the mileage and then input the info into the Ultra Gauge to get a ballpark Instant MPG and Avg MPG.

The console tray has a latch at the base and there's a decent amount of space under the tray

It amazes me on how many different style consoles there are between the Tundras and Sequoias.20190429_230011.jpg

My Bluetooth receiver goes there. Not like I can reach the switch blanks without scooting forward in the seat anyway.

Since the beginning of Toyota-time, styling has always put those little "cubbies" everywhere in the dash/console to catch dust, lint, screws/bolts that you find on the floor, hardware that falls off, broken plastic light lenses, spent fuses, loose change, keys (that you're going to need after you get out and lock the door), whatever. It's a Toyota thing. My Gen1 4Runner had two cubbies in the console, but no f'n cupholders. It's a wonder Toyota didn't get sued for scalding hot coffee spills.

Here is another little “cubbie” that has absolutely no purpose except to catch dust.

It’s just there because it’s the hole for a mirror switch. 1st gen tacos also have a tiny useless pocket there but apparently was for a mirror switch. (No clue what the hell came with it there though)

I’d have to see a picture. I’ve got a sequoia console. Kinda wish I had a tundra access cab one just because then my airbag switch would fit but meh. Sequoia one fits more switches

What mirror switch? My 03 taco had electric Morris and the switch was on the driver door. I used the little cubbie for pennies since the inside of console had a change holder but just for silver change.

The one from the door fits the center console. And the manual shows a mirror switch there in some Models. Maybe it was for trucks that got power mirrors but manual windows and locks?

Totally jealous as my '02 has no cubbies at all. Just a wide expanse of carpet.:(

Even with the bench seat? I though it only worked with buckets.

I mounted a ScanGauge in that area. Didn't really seem to be a functional space so this was the best I could come up with. :)

My initial search for an extension to my current console came up empty (a modular add-on, if there is such a beast). My search for a replacement for my current console that included an extension over the center hump to the climate control/ash tray also turned up nothing (that is, running from between the seats to the ash tray area). Is this an item that will most likely be found at a recycling center/junk yard? Are there particular years to search out, and/or other models of Toyota such as the Sequoia and maybe Tacoma? This extended console would be a welcome addition to my truck's interior, were I to find one that fits.:sawzall::welder:
