ankle5.jpg running board7.jpg ankle5.jpg running board7.jpg running board7.jpg I certainly don't believe I could be the only one with this problem, when getting into my truck and dragging my left leg up, The edge of the foot pad cuts a slice off my ankle. This is the 3rd time in what I believe is less than a month. I intend to go the the dealer soon to see what he has to say. I'm handicapped.

Woah.... Yep, ask the dealer to help you out. Pretty lame if they don't.

The service agent with a straight face told me it was not a Toyota problem. I assured her it was it was a Toyota problem. Told me I needed to adapt how I get into my truck. Told me about 1 customer who has a rope he used to drag his leg into the cab. Service manager asked if They could calk the bottom edge with Polyurethane. I'm giving it a try.

As for the size of the pictures, I'm new to all this and did the best I could.

sorry to hear about your problem, caulking may work or you can just look into selling those and getting a different kind of side steps.

Left foot on step. Right leg into truck. Then no dragging left leg over the step as it's on the step.

Unless the door/frame is causing it and not the step.

The edges of those pads can be sharp as the pads are just a stamped piece of plastic. If you can, try taking a heat gun to it, warm the edge until it softens and use a flat screwdriver or stiff putty knife to feather the edge down.

These are all good suggestions but I believe a reasonable person would expect to be able to get into his new truck without slicing chunks off his ankle. I think a reasonable dealership would make efforts to help out a anyone with this problem especially a 100% disabled veteran

I was wondering...to me it made no sense...almost like you werent using it as a step and sliding leg up it. I wasnt trying to be snarky, sorry if you took it that way.

Not sure why you would think that would make a difference.
I wouldn't expect to be treated any different.

I hope I don't sound like an ass, but I don't see how this is a actually a dealer or Toyota problem? The steps are not defective in any way from what I can tell.

You had the chance to try the steps out before you bought a high step in truck with your disability. Could you not just make sure you lift your leg over the area you are catching it on?

Either way, I hope they can swap them out for you to something that suits your needs better. If not, I'm sure you can modify them to make them work and not be so sharp.

I had an older tundra and never had a problem getting in. My wife recently died and I have a ranch with big trailers so I need a truck with all the drivers aids I could get. My wife was my navigator and you could always tell you were in trouble by the varying pitches of her screaming and clutching of the dash. I have to make trips to the Veterans hospital in the big cities which for me is very hard and all the new drivers aids help me a lot.

The Toyota dealership used black calk of some kind on the bottom edge, doesn't look all that great but I'll never catch my ankle again. I just have a hard time believing I'm the only person in the world with this problem. The local office checked with Toyota and supposedly they had never heard of it.

You are scraping your leg on a running board and this is somehow Toyota’s fault? Yeah ok....

I am sorry about your wife's passing. Frankly, this is first post that I've read reporting this sort of problem. I am glad that the Toyota dealership was able to do something. They probably had to figure something out off the cuff.

I’m tall, 6’3”. Running board’s don’t work for tall people in my opinion, for this very reason.

    Hey Josef,
Sorry to hear about the situation. If the dealership won't help you out then I might suggest purchasing a deburring tool off Amazon, similar to the one here. They're pretty cheap:
    https://www.amazon.com/AFA-Tooling-...&qid=1571249745&sprefix=deburr,aps,202&sr=8-3

I use one just like that on any sharp edges I have and it cleans them right up and smooths them to the touch.. even metal. If you're not able to run the tool over the edge then bring the tool with you next time you head into the VA. I'm sure you could find a helpful young fellow or lady that could knock them down for you. Just takes a pass or two over the sharp edge.

Just an option and hopefully you find a solution.

Just an FYI. That’s not a factory Toyota running board. I believe that is either a dealer installed step, or one of those “port installed options”. They don’t come from Toyota that way. So Toyota would not care in the least. Now the dealer obviously would and did... hence they fixed ya up.

personally we prefer the running boards "KG" toyota option code for our winters up there. helps prevent snow/slush being thrown up on the lower door rocker panels since its 90% city truck (wife's daily driver). only used during the pheasant season for hunting with 2 GSP dogs.

toyota has oem steps but they are alot wider than those in the pic you posted and have toyota imprinted on the steps if i remember correctly.

they have chrome and black versions.
