I’ve read of this situation you are in on those other Tundra sites. Seems to be many had the same problem on their posts dating back 10 years or so, but I never read a definitive solution. Some commenters who did the mod attributed the mush to the SS line itself after giving up on all measures.

Hoping you had a block under the brake pedal (to keep from depressing too far) while the pumping/bleeding was being performed.

 

I'm confident it's not the stainless steel lines.
I read the main benefit is that SS lines don't expand like rubber when you press the brakes.

And yes, I had 2x4 under the pedal.

 

Ah, the shape-shifting brake gremlin of the 1st gen Tundras. One day an errant ABS modulator, the next a master cylinder, the next a proportioning valve - a never ending affront to our sensibilities and trouble shooting. A jokester, this gremlin, and the bane of honest men and their trick rides. All good men should give up the wenches and pick up their wrenches and join in the fight to set right.

I believe my master cylinder is possessed, taken over, after the gremlin's expulsion from my ABS modulator.

 

Replaced the front brakes....again (warped, again), removed the leveling blocks as I've decided they just make the truck look dumb without actually helping anything and figured out my inner tie-rod ends are toast so I ordered some Moog replacements.

 

In preparation for PCV change out and other maintenance, ran across this Toyota Tech Tip concerning adhesives !

 

Not sure how you normally bleed brakes but I've been using a hand bleeded for years now. It makes being a loner and having bled brakes possible. When I had my suspension apart I just let the front lines drain completely and when I bled them it was very easy.
Something like this one is what I've used for maybe 5-7 years now. I think it's the same one but just a newer model.

Oh and @Professional Hand Model I'm running stainless lines with my abs sensor missing and my brakes feel great. Just bled them after new calipers and lines.

 

What size blocks? The front I'm assuming?

I had a harbor freight one for about a year before my cheap mityvac hand unit and it's been great. I even let it get rusty and now it doesn't seem to pump as well, but it still works better than one person pumping and one running the bleed screw. I'd say they are almost mandatory for hydro clutches of you replace something and need to bleed it. The harbor freight model didn't last very long but the mityvac has been good. I used an air assisted one before but I don't remember how it worked honestly.

 

Took the Tundra on a trip to gather some rims for my Tacoma project. While I was there went to the beach / campground to check it out for next year. When I got there, was paused at the Rangers booth getting the lay of the land & he pointed out I was leaking fuel by the smell of things. Great. This new journey better end with my 11mph improving! LOL. (But the truck sure sounds nice when she downshifts on the highway to make a fast pass!).

This very dry thing/lump of rust was soaked in fuel when I got home. Looks like the fuel line is split going into it. Possibly split open by expanding rust. Joy. Guess I need some pretty spring clamps too. This brine they spray on the roads... pure evil in a liquid.

At least the hood that wouldn't latch closed fixed itself. Must'a been the release pull inside needs lube.

Yeah, the front. 3" lift spacers. I put in airbags in the rear to keep the truck from squating with a load but the other day I had it parked next to an identical tundra without the lift and decided I liked how the stock raked tundra looked better. Not to mention my truck gets a lot of use in 4WD and lifts are always somewhat harder on CV's and such and there is nothing that 3" more clearance in the front is going to do for me for how I use the truck.

 

I only ask because I have some 1.5" or maybe they are 2" spacers for the front that I'm not using. I'd guess a flat rate box for something like $12 would get them there.

 

Changed front wheel bearing and hub glad I had someone else with me lol ....noticed some rubber cracking on boot around the axle...figured I’m in this far already so I changed it as well. Finally plugged the slow leak in one of my tires and charged the AC as well...maybe if I can sneak outside tomorrow without the wardens knowledge I can open up the dash to get the new radio installed or the LED headlights and fog lights, wish me good fortune!

I picked up a 1 man brake bleeder from Advance and did the system. It was air bubble city. Pedal feels better. This kit was overpriced for the quality. I may try to return it. The $20 ones on Amazon have surprisingly good reviews.

Which one? They range from $40 to $260.
Harbor Freight sells a $40 Mityvac.

 

mines a pneumatic bleeder. its about 100 bucks last i checked. use it for brake fluid, power steering fluid, if you have a long enough hose trans fluid through a dipstick

 

Mityvac are good. I think those are better to use than my Motive power bleeder, less fuss and less wasted fluid. Glad you got that solved, I HATE wondering about squishy brake pedals.

 

Yep. I ran out of fluid so I had to stop. I think some air is still in the system because the bubbles never stopped. I'm going to buy a better bleeder and do it again. But it's at least safe to drive for now.

 

That's good progress. Be sure the fitting is secured well to the bleed valve too, sometimes they can draw air from there.

 

well figured out where i plan on putting all my switches. 07 sequoia center console had 4 switch spot piece that fits in the tundra console. looks like i'll be able to get the airbag kill switch working, and have plenty of space for other switches (especially since i found out dual switches are a thing for those blanks)

 

this post needs a picture or two - I'm not quite seeing it & have never been in a Sequoia.

What I did yesterday and today. My wife and kid were leaving today for a trip so I stuck around Saturday and played with mini me and saw them off today. After they left I was off to betos for a burrito and then I was making room in the garage for the tundra. I pulled the fenders off and clearanced the passenger side some more. Now I need to throw some more glass on the back side to put some material back in there. I did this while drinking some Elijah Craig and then tried to burn the house down just a little bit.
I also picked up some extended brake lines from some dude named Sean that had a white extended cab with the solo front suspension. Solid deal there.

New headlights on their way.

I'm seriously considering making a bumper if I can get all this $hit painted in a timely manner.

I also need to copy what Sean did with his undercover snorkel because my current setup is kinda janky. Not to mention I don't think it flows very well.

Don't think he's a member here. He's been on other forums though. Seanpistol is his username. His threads actually kept coming up when I first started searching for my build ideas. Probably the most complete build thread for a long travel adventure style first gen I could find.

@KarmaKannon Sean is a good dude. He gave me the idea to go banjo on my brake lines. Had about the best first gen I can remember except for the paint.

@because_wumbo-truck he sold that tundra and bought a Dodge.
