Need a bit of sane advice... Never thought I would be asking this, but here I am. I brought my 2016 TRD Sr5 to the dealer for check and talked about a trade on a 2019 White Pro. They have (the only one in stock) retail at 52,600. No dickering, no incentives, and unwilling to budge off the sticker price. They offer 28000 for my 2016 Black Crewmax with 52k miles. Nothing wrong with my truck and it’s tricked out with too many mods to list... all within 10k or fewer miles. (Dirty deeds, Bilstein coilovers, coachbuilders, Baja lighting, pro grill, bushwhacker, Bak cover, headache rack, and on and on.) they liked the mods and want to keep them on the truck.
The Pro is color matched and blacked out, Nav, dual exhaust, bbs wheels, Liner, etc. nice truck.
The alternate deal for a Platinum in MGM is 48,500. I would go with the pro.
My 2016 has the platinum warranty. Does this sound like a reasonable deal or am I just love struck?
There is no necessity or logical reason to make the switch, but a Part of me thinks, “well, you only live once, and I can afford this truck, so why not a New Pro”. My rational brain says, if I am so nutty on the pro, and the stealership is offering 28k on my trade, I could sell mine for more and do straight buy on a pro anytime. And what about a lease?

I got my near 54k 19 Pro for 48. I'd check around near you. I realize I got a pretty good deal, but some out there are willing to bargain.

Sounds like you have a nice truck, and I can't imagine how huge of a hit you'll take doing this for essentially the same truck. Keep it!

I'd keep your truck without question, plus their offer for your truck is weak sauce. Worth way more!

Plus 1. The dealer is nuts on that. Remember, buying a nice truck like the Pro is an emotional thing. He is playing on your emotion. Probably gave another guy a better deal than you because he saw that the other guy was not as interested. Enjoy your rig.

I agree - keep your truck. The one thing you have to keep in mind is that you are going to want to start modding the PRO right after you get it too. You modded the truck you have to what you wanted and you never recoup that cost. You have no issues with the truck you have and a platinum warranty. Keep it until the wheels falls off. Your truck will be worth close to that value they are offering even another year from now. Wait until there is a deal that you can’t refuse

It’s white. Don’t do it.

Seriously I have a 15 and was thinking about doing the same. Looked at the pros and the platinums then talked myself out of it. To me it came down to what I’d gain vs what it would cost me. They both have better resell but I’ve modded mine the way I want it. Maybe if I had high mileage would have leaned harder into it but I’m still under 50k so there is a lot of life left in him.

Warranties and leases are both rip offs that enrich the dealership. Keep what you have and cash out the warranty

You may be right on a reliable truck like a tundra; the extended warranty I bought for my titan paid for itself four times over in warranty repairs

    Dont do it.
I own a Pro that I got for 48,000 with another set of tires, steps and a cover.
Stuff i would have bought anyway
so take anther 3000 off the sticker.

If they wont budge and the 2020s are out they can eat it.

Bet they call with a better deal but it better be 48,000 if you really want payments and a Pro

Dont do it. Just got mine for 48.5k you can find a better dealer and they can find a better sucker. 2020s are on lots now. Go spend 54k on a 2020 instead with added features the 19 doesnt have.

So I decided to check out another dealer that has 2 black Pros. Same price. They offered 1000 off and 30k for my truck and I can keep the mods except suspension. So 3k less. I drove the truck but I like the way mine handles better. It surprised me. Maybe the tires, but the suspension on mine feels much firmer with much less body roll. Still a very pretty truck though...

This is all excellent advice! Thanks to everyone! Just what I need to hear. I bought my 16 tundra for under 29k with only 40k miles and warranty. It was a smoking deal. I will wait them out or keep what I have. Folks are right about the mods. I was already thinking tires and a lift .

That Pro does look nice. One thing to keep in mind if you really start thinking of trying to sell your truck privately instead of trading it in: Depending on the state you live in, you may not be getting taxed on your trade in. Meaning if they are giving you $30k for your trade on a $50k new vehicle, you would only pay tax on the $20k difference. If you sell your truck privately and take that cash to the dealer, you pay tax on the whole $50k.

Say the tax is 6%. That's $1,800 on $30k. That means you have to go through the hassle of a private sale and sell for at least $31,800 just to break even on throwing the keys at the dealer and walking away.

FWIW I did something similar. Wasn't planning on getting rid of my 16 4Runner until the dealer made me an offer I thought was quite good. Certainly didn't need to get anything new, but I'm quite happy with my new Tundra. Good luck!

Being a former black car owner, I hate black vehicles but that truck looks awesome. If you did all of those mods I would think you're in it for the long haul. Never pay retail and at the end of the day do really wanna be driving around a big wedding cake:)

+ another. They are listing them around here are $3k off. That is starting point. Apparently there are a few in inventory. That is what happens when you over charge for things

    That’s
That is good point about the taxes on the trade. The extra 1800 for the hassle isn’t worth it. I like the idea of just handing over the keys and driving off. I am not sure but can ask. As it stands, I am recovering 2k on mods in the trade in value and over a year of use on the truck, and add another 1k or more in mod recovery in what I can remove that they were fine with. If they threw in A warranty and another 1k, and let me keep my rollover tonneau, I would probably do it. It’s a beautiful truck! I would probably keep this truck for many years. I take really good care of my vehicles.

I think I will give it some time. They have 2 Pros on the lot and with the 20’s around and two competing big toyota dealers within 15 minutes drive. Boston is not that far away. Someone will be willing to wheel and deal for a sale.
I have only ever bought 1 new car my entire life. Yet, I always had really nice cars and gotten very good deals. To me, the value of money is time and freedom. I don’t like borrowing for something that loses value. Unless, the financial loss is made up with something intangible, but still of great value, like joy.
And we all know what out shined up, bad-assed Tundras bring us all!
Even though I had to work this weekend, kicking around and doing it in my truck makes it fun and that makes it easier.
Now I have a big birthday coming up and have done most of the work on my cars all my life and same with the buildings and now I feel like I have worked hard for a lot of years; full time job wearing a tie as a professional and a business on the side, giving up a lot of nights and weekends (not complaining, I just like to work). So, if I don’t pull the trigger now, I will at some point, when the deal is right. I just have to be patient and smart about it.
