Well, we’re finally packing up and heading to North Carolina to live in Clayton.
I will be hauling our Honda CR-V on a auto transport trailer from U-Haul that does not have brakes.
To those that have hauled a vehicle on a trailer with no electric brakes, how good or bad will my 2017 Tundra stop with my car and trailer hitched on?
Will it be quite a load to stop or not that noticeable.
    Just wondering.
    Wish us luck!

U-haul auto transport trailers have hydraulic surge brakes unless the rental rep said they're not working (unlikely they'd rent it). Surge brakes work by having a brake master cylinder built into the hitch; when the tow vehicle slows, the momentum of the auto transport trailer actuates the hitch master cylinder which applies the wheel brakes.

I am sure the previous poster is correct. States have laws on trailer weight versus vehicle weight. That trailer without brakes would be illegal in most all states. I hauled my bay boat which scaled at 4650 without working brakes for almost 2 years. Tundra stopped it no problem but relatively flat around here.

Thanks for this, the rental agent made no mention of any assist braking.
    Appreciate the information.

Picking up and moving across country is stressful enough without worrying about your trailer's brakes. BTDT. :D Good luck with the move.

U-hauls auto transporters do have hydraulic surge brakes and they work well. Have used one several times.

Hello and Hi, I live up by RDU and for the first 8 years I did live in Clayton. My wife and I now live in Morrisville. Welcome to Raleigh. If you need any advice on the area do not hesitate to reach out. Raleigh is a super place to live, just don't tell everyone.

I get that. You'll laugh when Raleigh gets 2" of snow and the city locks down... haha
