Looking for suggestions and input my truck is at the dealer for oil change and I have 146k miles they recommended services with the milage coolant flush, fuel system maintenance? Transmission flush and belt change.

I can do the belt my self not worried about that but the fuel and transmission maintenance any input is it worth it?? My daily driver and I drive alot for work and everything else I've always been leery on transmission flushes and all. Any input appreciated

I would consider it with 146k miles...especially if it's never been done and you plan on driving it for a while. I don't think I would have the dealer do it though. They'll probably charge more than it should cost. Check with a transmission shop for comparison so you know.

We have some iffy trans shops local they said it would be 250 for a flush at the dealer which seems normal reading online but I'll call around trans has never been touched

More on here in favor of a Transmission "Drain & Fill" opposed to a Flush. Replaces about 4 quarts each time. Can be a DIY.

Coolant flush, cannot comment. I would consider DIY something like a drain and fill, drain radiator - refill with new.

Fuel system maintenance? I believe these are big $$$ profit for them. You can clean MAF sensor and throttle as well.

Dealers are high IMHO for this kind of work. Shop local shops or DIY, save bunches.....

I’ve had my transmission service/flush done at the dealer around 125k.
I know most people stay away from the dealer but I trust them more than just some joe shmoe transmission shop.
    Cheaper isn’t always better.

I had a similar situation come across not to long ago. I needed to get my commuter vehicle serviced at 60k. When I called the dealer to get a quote of what was needed, I was blown away. Something in the neck of the woods is $1200. The guy rattle off all things that needed to be done. I was skeptical which lead me to find this neat little tool on Toyota’s website which allows you to punch in your model, year and mileage, and it gives you Toyota’s recommendation. I fact checked this with the vehicle maintenance guide that came with the car, it matched. Ended up only being $125 service vs what I was told by the dealer.

Dealers make a ton of money selling the xxx mileage maintenance to little old ladies and the uneducated.

I'm all for doing everything I can myself to the extent of my mechanical knowledge but transmissions I'm still learning and in still skeptical on dealers because of the money scam on most. But at the same time the more miles I can get out of my trans the better

I recently did this "maintenance" after purchasing my truck...I was quoted $230 for transmission fluid drained and refilled (along with filter), rear end drain and refill and the transfer case drained and refilled...from an indy shop...the dealer was quoted at literally twice the cost. I hope this helps!

I also did the belt tensioner and new belt with the fluid swap for a total of $505 out the door...

Sounds like you need a better place to work on your truck!

Yup. You nailed it. And it pisses me off because I think of my 94 year old Grandma in this situation. If the only way you can make money is by taking advantage of people, maybe you shouldn’t be in business at all or what you’re offering is a really crappy product or service.

Yeah I'm normally a diy mechanic when I can be but transmissions just make me leary as I can't easily fix a issue on them lol and I figured with the milage and my tire size it would be beneficial but still don't trust the dealer I've seen on fb in a Houston page alot of people recommended Kennedy auto solutions for a full flush haven't seen anything negative on them yet and I go to houston quite often for work

Hmmm, I have mild concern now...perhaps I misread the invoice... I'll confirm tomorrow; thanks for the clarification!

We bought a used 3 row Mazda a couple years ago. Thing had slotted and drilled brake rotors on it. Was owned by an 80 yr old woman. Can only think that the dealer upsold her and convinced her she needed these brake rotors for her SUV.

I had a quote from my local dealer in SE Pa and it says 75-90. I show them the manual that it is straight 75. Still waiting for a answer

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT Flush it. Just drain and fill!!!!!!!

If you go to an independent shop make sure they use Toyota fluid. Advance and other places say they have things that are comparable but often times they are not, or if you know someone who has used a specific type of fluid over a long period of time.
