So it’s that time of year up here in Maine. Time to start thinking of the dreaded four letter S word.... snow! I’m sending my current plow rig down the road this weekend, as I just can’t justify owning 2 full sized trucks any longer. That leaves the 2019 Tundra CM to fulfill plowing duties this year. I won’t be plowing commercially, but will be plowing my driveway (500’) and a couple of others in the neighborhood. With that being said, I’ve only known V plows... so there’s no going back to a straight blade. According to Fisher plows, my truck isn’t listed as accepting any of their Vs, but Boss does have a 1/2 ton plow listed, the HTX V. Curious if anyone here is running one?

Originally the plan was to do a Toytec 3/1 lift and some 285 Ridge Grapplers, but Boss is telling me that the added height from the front end lift and tire difference, is to high for the plow mount. Booo! Now I’m thinking front end level and tossing some Timbrens in place of the factory bump stops just to help eliminate sag when the plow is lifted. Looks like 275 Ridge Grapplers now too, as they seem pretty close to the stock rubber size.

    Thoughts?

Well being from Louisiana, the only plowing we do involves mules or fat girls......and they are interchangeable. :anonymous:

I'm looking as well, I like the Boss HTX V but can't justify the price for it unless i start really hammering out more driveways. I can get a smoking deal on a 7.6' snowdogg but I really dislike how low the mount is. I bought some used Fox 2.0 coilovers off the forum, I got them mainly b/c of the 700 lbs springs. That should be more then enough to handle the weight of a plow and give me 2" lift. Most likely I'll up size a little to 275/70's instead of 35/34" tires. Got to stay practical I suppose.

The 3/1 spacer lift isn't going to help the truck better handle the weight of the plow anyway. You'd be better suited with an upgraded front shock/spring combo like the Bilstein 6112. The spring perches are adjustable so you can dial in your height for the plow. The plow I used to run was a chain lift and had some adjust-ability to compensate for a taller ride height, but ideally you really want your a-frame to be level with the ground.

The bumpstops are probably a good idea in addition to the shock/spring upgrade but you don't want to be relying on them to do the work that the suspension should be doing.

Anyway, best of luck from a fellow Mainer. Here's a couple pics of my old Tundra with a 7.5' Fisher SD with stock suspension.

Edit: Also, I wanted to mention that the manufacturer plow "recommendations" for these trucks are very conservative. I think the front suspension is really pretty stout for a "1/2 ton". I have no first hand experience but I have seen several people running 8+' V plows on them with no issues.

I'd go Boss over Snowdogg every time. Our Maintenance department has a SD V on a Kubota and they had problems with it before the 1st winter was up.

Snoway makes an 8ft V for the Tundra also. No idea if you have any dealers up there in Fisher country though.

Here's my plow rig. A bit old school. International Scout with the 196 CID 4 cylinder. Best $50 I ever spent!

No V plow here. In fact, if I want to change the angle, I have to get out and pull the pin and physically move it to the desired angle then replace the pin. Only hydraulics for up and down. But hey, for $50 I can't complain. It's been plowing my driveway for the last 10 years. It's a little drafty in there with the missing driver's door, but again for $50 I'm not complaining.

When I first got it, the previous owner said it needed a fuel pump.

I called the local auto parts store and they said they could get the original style mechanical pump, but it was $150, three times what I paid for the Scout. Then they said: "We have a universal low pressure electric pump for $40". I said: "I'll take it".

I got the pump, bolted it to the metal dashboard, ran wire to the battery with a switch on the dash, and ran rubber fuel line through the firewall to the carb. Bought a 6 gallon plastic boat tank and put it on the passenger seat. Works like a champ!

That looks exactly what I used to have, got it for free, I would have to bet the fuel tank is rusted out.

Just wanted to update. I ended up going with the 8’ 2” Boss VXT. Weighs in at 714lbs. I’ve only plowed one storm with it so far... about 8 inches of snow... and it handled like a dream. Running a 3/1 setup with Timbrens up front to replace factory bump stops. 350lbs of ballast weight in the rear most of the bed. Pretty impressed on how the truck did. I’ll update with pics next time it snows (tomorrow) if it’s plowable.
