New guy here, Ive always tuned into these threads for insights but never asked my own personal troubleshoots. That being said, I found a huge puddle and followed my buddy in his taco through it and tossed up a couple walls. Battery in the truck was recently replaced. light came on shortly after the fun in the mud. After about 2 hours of more offroading it completely died. All ive seen in the forums as that people have replaced the alternator but HAS ANYONE TRIED TO SWAP THE 140 ALT FUSE FIRST and tried kind of a reset on the alternator? Im finding it really hard to believe its completely trashed after one big splash in some mud...

My guess its your alternator, I had that happen to me before. The mechanic showed me all the mud sprayed all over it.

Ok it only took some minor tlc... for anyone with this same weird issue, we checked the fuse which was the biggest pain because it’s deep in there and connected to the main which needed some plastic shaved away to get to but the fuse was fine. Then we cleaned the alternator(without taking it from the truck) with some old school Alt cleaner that my buddy had but isn’t sold in stores anymore. Sprayed it with compressed air and boom! Fired right up. Good luck! I’m definitely going to be making my own splash guard for the ALT tho. Stupid Toyota, I’d like to talk to whomever’s idea it was to mount it so low in the first place.

Right on, ya mine was caked with mud and I think the mechanic said that my alternator is close to the bottom of the engine, which isint good. Its been a couple years but, I was trying to remember the situation. That would be a good idea to put some kind of cover around it as long as it still gets good air flow

The alternator is at the bottom, along with the water pump. Both stupid locations. Try to find your starter....
