1StGen headlight and fog light LED conversion!

I purchased brand new headlights for my 2006. While I was at it I decided to get some hEad light LED 9003’s and some fog light 9006’s. I had a feeling something would start to act up due to the much lower resistances but I didn’t want to order the solution until I verified. Verified! Turn on headlights and they work. Turn on fog lights and they don’t turn on but does activate my high beams. All in all, I ordered some inline resistors to put some load on the system. Hopeful just the headlight ones will do. Wish me luck ✌️ Fresh Installed (sorry truck has been sitting and a bit dirty )

 

Yep. I had the same issue with my Beamtech LEDs. I emailed Beamtech & they sent me the resistors for free. Check with your vendor.

 

That’s incredible customer service. I already ordered the resistors and my LEDs although heavily researched were purchased from eBay (doubt they would do anything for me). I will definitely keep “Beamtech” in mind for any future LED purchases. Thanks for that info

 

Can you guys with LEDs post wall output shots? I tried LED bulbs in my pops', now mine, 06 DC before retrofitting and the light pattern was atrocious. That was several years ago. I wonder if the newer bulbs are any better.

 

What the ostrich said sounds reasonable. We need some output shots!

 

Just for the love of all that is holy don't post shots of the blinding lights themselves. Like duh we know what the lights look like and that they will be bright as hell but what does their output look like. Park perpendicular to a flat wall about 25 feet away and show us what the light output looks like from the drivers point of view. I've had to say this on so many forums for different vehicles over the years because folks will post headlight pictures instead of output shots. Lol.

If that's the bar then we should judge factory Bilstein struts against my front end.

It means changing a bulb is a lot easier than doing retrofits. Kinda like changing a strut is easier than rebuilding a whole front suspension.

 

Sorry guys. I wasn’t trying to show the quality of HID s just yet. I want to get them working properly if not what’s the point? With that said the H4 resistors that I purchased were useless. With the resistors plugged in line from trucks harness to bulb harness they bulbs would not light up. Removed them again which brought me back to the same issue I had initially. May be the resistors I purchase ? Any ideas?

 

As soon as I get them functioning properly I’ll take a pic for you guys. Still working on getting my fogs to work with the LEDs.

 

I found these on eBay. The reviews actually mentions these properly working when others didn’t on a 2003 Sequia. I’m hoping this is my easy fix. I may remove the LEDS if these don’t fix my issue.

 

The plug in resistors that beamtech sent me fixed my issue with my fogs not working. Maybe that's worth a try?

 

Is there a part number or anything on it? Maybe a link to the one you have specifically? I’ll wait for the one I ordered to arrive so that I can test it. If it doesn’t work I may give the beamtech one a shot before going back to factory lights.

 

I don't have a link because I just purchased the beamtech led conversion off Amazon and when the fogs acted up I contacted beamtech and they sent me the resistors for no extras charge.

 

Success! The second set of resistors worked great. Everything functions as it should now . Very excited about this. These don’t really have a name brand but if you search “h4 resistor” it should come up. Should look just like what’s pictured. I WILL BE TAKING PICTURES OF LIGHTING AT NIGHT FROM DRIVER SEAT ✌️

 

Are you happy with the beamtech's? Do you feel like they were worth it with factory housings?

 

For the price and difficulty I'm extremely happy. It's not like driving my wife's MB with steering headlights and automatic brights, but it is a big improvement over the factory style bulbs I had. For under $50 it improves my vision a lot and doesn't seem to piss anybody off or blind the cars in front of my any more than any truck does just from having the headlights at head level in the car.

 

Perfect answer. I don't expect to have headlights that beat MB or the new LED offerings everyone has now, just an improvement over stock is nice.

Exactly. I was realistic with my goals and subsequently very satisfied.

 

Like the new headlights and will look into LED/Fog Light. Would love to change out my 2004 even tho I just recently finished making them almost like new with 3M kit.

Where did you get these new head lights. ?

Just below. I stood out about 30 yards and they are fine, low glare.

 

The more I look at this I think that the Beamtech's are a lot better than the ones I installed last week. I'll be removing mine tonight and trying the Katana's. I'll post pictures of both.

Blue tape on the door (lower pieces) is the the level height of the SAE little circle for aiming on the lens assy.

Truck is backed away from the garage door about 23ft. with LOW BEAMS and Fogs Lights in ON position.

Very happy with this set up. Not perfect, but way better than it ever was when new (and better than many cars on the road).

Perfect Fits $129? (Fanless). My favorite light source are the fogs as the 2002 OEM assy put out a 220° surrounding light.

 

BTW, there is a new Fog Bulb on the market that has 4 color options. No need for colored lenses! Someone buy these and test them out. Good reviews.
