Hey all. I read I the manual that the vehicles will transmit data to Toyota, with no notification to us , also external images. Anyone else just slightly concerned????? My wife says no one else cares, so I am asking , what are your thoughts???????

I get weird number phone calls (I don't answer them) when either my 2017 Tundra or 2016 Corolla have the "MAINTENANCE REQUIRED" indicator come on on the dash. Literally that day the calls start. Some, over the years, have left messages, so I know that they're "calling on behalf of Hoover Toyota." Maddening.

So, yes, the vehicles are transmitting data to the mother ship.

Unless I missed it, Tundras don’t have any sort of way to transmit through cell towers like onstar though. I guess it can do it through entune if you connect your cell phone. But I think it covers them when you physically take it in and they hook up to the ecu. But I would like to know what all the ecu stores and what Toyota does with it. I heard it was for insurance claims.

Connect wireshark to your computer and scan traffic sent.

I am guessing if Toyota can update your firmware on your hu they can read anything they want from it

The Toyota Entune uses your phone to access the internet if you allow it to

But does it send vehicle info?

Pretty sure the truck itself has no wifi, cell, or Bluetooth. Only way is a physical connection to the OBD port.
